It may be interesting that Spearhead Reddit voted Sylvaneth by far the most powerful Spearhead force, and after playing few games (none of them against or with them tho. However I did really well with Fyreslayers, who are considered "below average" tier) I can see why: Between Branchwitch healing, army rule and green board Treelord just won't die. Like, ever. I think he may be toughest model in Spearhead mode. Kurnoths can snipe most heroes in single turn if you get good rolls and are overall very chunky for archers. Everything have great mobility due to army rule, and then you can supercharge it with Walkers Regiment pick. Can do "Nothing Personal, Kid" with Kurnoths. Treelord is your tank. Revenants are your most interesting unit. You can "recycle" them via Reinforcement so don't hesitate to kamikaze them into semi-nasty things. They are good for clearing other chaff. I think Seeds of Rebirth have some use because 5 health 5+ no ward general is... weak. Like, barely a character at all. I still think healing is more useful on her. Gnarled Roots - trash, she's too frail to benefit from that. I see two "builds": Walkers + Regrowth (Red board)/Treesong (Green board, it have healing). - good against "chaff armies" Spirits + Seeds/Regrowth (Red Board)/Treesong(Green board). - better against elites. There are quite a few differences between red/green board sides. Objective placement is one thing, but decks of cards used for each of them have huge impact. Red is more of offensive buffs/damage, green is about healing and defense. I feel Green is a lot better pick (you can relegate Witch to buff role), but I would have to run through all the cards.

Thanks for sharing your insights! I've played very little Spearhead, but I think Sylvaneth's is fantastic. Certainly from a collecting perspective, everything except the Branchwych is basically an auto-include. Just thinking about Spearhead kinda makes me want to try 1k games the way unreinforced bows are so impactful and the Treelord is so hard to take down.

I pretty much always use autorun+charge on alarielle, get her into a unit of something, kill bunch of stuff, strike+fade/power through her back to the bows, works quiet well

That's good intel. In the matches I see, Belthanos' run&charge is way underutilized. I know power through is fantastic on Alarielle. I'll keep an eye out for it in future battle reports, although I don't have an Alarielle myself.

The missing shoulder pad could be replaced with creating a copy. Bluestuff can be used to create a mold, fill it with green stuff or milliput and boom - new shoulder pad. I’m not an expert on bluestuff but I copied a view weapon options and it worked okay. I got one set of bows and one scythes all glued up. I got 2 more on the shelf and after I’ve seen this vid I will try to magnetize them. Thanks for all the information. Now I feel more confident trying it out!

I honestly wouldn't even bother, missing shoulder pads could be made just out of little putty "pancake", with one of little creatures or extra "hair" glued on top. Pieces 13, 46 and 73 ("hair" spikes) have nice half-rounded shape already.

Awesome content, but too late))) Already have 6 bows, 6 swords and 6 converted scythes (used blades of swords on both ends of scythe handles to pay homage to Eternal Guard of Wood Elves) However, in my mind main issue with magnetization of kurnoths is that they are too monopose, if you make 2 or even 4 bodies with magnets, you would get complete twins. And magnetization of weapons would make almost impossible to repose them, as in my case all 18 of them have quite unique pose through cutting and glueing hand parts in a lot of pieces, making sure that such reposing would even fit with magnets seems to be too complicated.
@gammafighter6 күн бұрын

Im starting a AoS army but I can't pick. Not only do I need to find a army that looks good and fits my playstyle, I also need to think about the freshness of the faction models. Which brings me to my point, do you belive these Kurnoth will make the cut when the new battle toom drops? New models are awesome but not when you finished a new arrmy and half of it is getting replaced or even worse scrapped. Cheers!
@gammafighter6 күн бұрын
I'm a noted Kurnoth Hunter enjoyer, so I might be a bit biased, but Kurnoth Hunters feel like the safest unit in the Battle Tome. I can imagine them changing Alarielle, Belthanos, or even Spirt of Durthu so much that they are no longer optimal, but I can't imagine a world where Kurnoth Hunters are nerfed to the point of not being viable. We don't know how far away our Battle Tome is anyway, so I don't think you need to wait to buy. If this is a big concern for you, you can just use two boxes. I don't think you'll ever regret having access to a single reinforced unit of Kurnoth Hunters and most importantly, they look cool!
@UnkaStunka6 күн бұрын
Thank you, maybe I was a bit unclear but Im more worried about the actual models being replaced than the stats. I do not want do be painting up a full army just to be sitting with a old model range when the new book drops.

In that case, I'm really not sure. The models look great, but they are pretty old so it's hard to say if they'll get refreshed or not. If you really want to have matching Kurnoths, you may want to wait until we see what we'll get with the battletome.

Making your own list, would it be any good or fun to run a block of 20 Dryads and/or 10 Spite revs and give them "Special Assignment" for increased rend. Comboed with the spell to add rend to an AWW, they can actually hit surprisingly hard. If you run "Forrest Folk" they even go up to 3 rend! Dryads being a Bodyguard and having 2 rend (spell and "sub-faction"), being -1 to hit and wound and being -1 attack makes them SO durable, and in return they will do damage to those that choose to charge them surprising your opponent. Guarding a WSR or Lady, you could even factor in a ward save on top of all the debuffs.
@gammafighter6 күн бұрын
That sounds like a meme, but it also sounds incredibly fun and annoying, lol. It's possible that mass dryads standing on objectives with 3-piece AWW giving a huge -1 to hit and -1 to wound aura, LoV and Warsong giving wards and stacking rend is the optimal strategy, but we will never find out because no one wants to buy, build, and paint 80 dryads. Nobody can hit you and you just kill them with 164 papercuts and 50 objective control on each point. You should try it on Tabletop Simulator!
@Healadin6 күн бұрын
Nice video, pointing out other (viable, at least in terms of statistics) options. One thing that came to mind, if you run the changes with an additional drop, chances increase that you will be able to more regularly take an additional Honor Guard. Is there a specific one coming to mind for this that stands out over the others, that perhaps can shift moving away from Alarielle even more attractive? Something to further negate what you lose.
@gammafighter6 күн бұрын
Thanks for commenting! When picking an additional Honor Guard ability (assuming you're running the +1 to hit and wound as your first one on your Kurnoth Hunters), honestly all of them are viable except the new movement one because we don't have any viable users for that one. But it will depend on the map and your opponent. - Bodyguard is good if you need survivability on your General. I would run Durthu as my general if I'm not running Alarielle - +1 Rend against a unit type could be good against an opponent that has a lot of one unit type. Probably not Cavalry because even though Run & Charge is good, some fast cav should be able to outspeed us. But something like Anti-Monster against Krondys might be good since he is so important to their strategy (disclaimer: I haven't tried this). - The one that gives the Treelord +1 to hit and no battle damage seems a pretty good agnostic one. TL Doesn't have great damage but this helps it to be more consistent.

I love this! I've been postponing magnetizing my Sylvaneth so I haven't started building yet. This will help me and I want to get into building NOW! ❤ I personally would absolutely LOVE it of you would do a similar video on Treelords, as you can make and use all 3 versions of them as well 👍🏻 Is there also other things to magnetize in Sylvaneth? Like Alarielle to the bug, or the vines on the back of the Lady of Vines? Not for different weapon options, but more for easier transportation or storage.
@gammafighter6 күн бұрын
That's great to hear- that's exactly why I made this video! For Tree Lords, I find it really straightforward- the branches and tabard are different for the different builds, but the important parts are the weapon hand and the head- just two parts that are easy to change out. The only real consideration is you have to make sure the pose works for all the weapons. I got a pre-built Treelord second hand and the Tree Lord is shooting his vines straight into the ground! Not the end of the world, but if you're building your own, you want to make sure not to do something like that. I personally wouldn't magnetize stuff like Alarielle or Lady of Vines just for the simple fact that they will not look quite as good. The gaps from the magnets might show and the parts might twist, move, or fall off during a game. In those cases, I care more about the appearance than the transportation convenience. But that's just me!
@Healadin6 күн бұрын
@gammafighter Would it be an idea for your second hand Treelord, if you have some extra spare vines, to make it look like the vines into the ground are coming out if the ground elsewhere to root a target? Making it a bit more thematic and look intended rarher than a mistake :)

I think that would deviate from the list too much for the purposes of this video. But that is the playstyle that I prefer. Unless you're hardcore grinding to be the best, I think it's perfectly fine to play a Kurnoth/Bugrider heavy list and see how it goes. For me, I hardly ever get to play so I'd rather play a list that I find fun rather than the most optimal meta list.

Thanks for watching! Just to clarify, I didn't come up with this list- I've seen a lot of people using it to great success by looking up tournament results. For the Awakened Wyldwoods, unless you're a playing in a tournament that requires official GW models, you can use carboard cutouts of the footprint, which you should be able to print from the internet. In many cases, those are more convenient for the table anyways since it's easier to fit models in without the branches getting in the way. I think the Gossamid archers would be more useful!

I think you should talk to someone who already played the meta list and explained to you the choices and the why’s. The List is really hard to pilot but the reason for instance of belthanos is that you have 6 inches more thread range - even if you do not use it the opponent have to deal with it. The role of Alarielle can be different from player to player. The best way is to play her as an harassment anvil who gets bodyguard in the middle of the table. But to use her that way means that you really have to do your homework on which units have to be soften up and where to place her that she can tank. Belthanos is usually the first or second unit who dies. He go mostly for the flanks or against hyper aggressive armies together with durhtu the meat shield. The real reason the army struggles is against Tzeentch and Kragnos supported armies. He alone is able to inhale the army. Alarielle alone is worth to create a 30 min vid how to play her

Very nice analysis. I am running some of the ideas proposed here in my current list which consist of: WSR with Gossamid/Tree revenants and 6 archers, Treelord ancient with Treelord, Belthanos and Durthu. There is a very cagey playstyle with this list that I am trying to move away from by including Belthanos and try to seize a run and charge opportunity with Durthu. Question for you: Would you localize your WSR bubble to some unit and move this has a block or try to capture has much of the army within and spawn from trees for 9" charges ? Thanks for the content very helpfull
@gammafighter11 күн бұрын
Wow, great minds think alike- that looks like a very similar list. When it comes to the Warsong ward aura, it depends on the map, your opponent, and your strategy, so it's hard to say. Generally speaking, your monster units get a lot of value out of the ward, so it's good to have them in range of it, but not if it's going to cost you completing a tactic, taking objectives, getting kills, etc. Belthanos likes to be played on the flanks and he's more mobile, so it's probably not as important for him to be in range. But the Tree Lord and TLA are mostly just anvils, so they would benefit a lot. If you're trying to recreate the playstyle of the meta list, having the TL and TLA within range of the Warsong, sort of recreates Alarielle as a central anvil unit.

@gammafighterАй бұрын
Good point! I always forget about Belthanos being Kurnothi. But his damage is lower than a reinforced unit of Scythes, so the efficiency results would be worse than when the Arch Rev buffs 2 units of Scythes. Unless you bring 2 units of Scythes and Belthanos and keep them all within her range.
@xavierwong1889Ай бұрын
It’s a good point on the rev efficiency, but to me the conversation isn’t on the efficiency of an arch rev added to a reinforced unit, but instead a regular unit plus the rev vs a reinforced unit. Gives an extra quick unit, slightly cheaper, and still has decent enough damage to punch up into a lot of flank skirmishes
@gammafighterАй бұрын
Yeah, if you don't have enough points available to add another unit of Kurnoths or reinforce an existing one, an Arch Rev is a cheaper way to boost the damage. If we're talking about just one unit of Kurnoth Scythes, we might also consider the Arch Rev's damage and tanking capabilities. At that point, the extra 1-2 damage she brings will make a pretty significant percentage increase. But at that point, you might be better off bringing Dryads to screen, Gossamids to harass, Spite Revenants to screen, etc. It might be worth, but there is lots to consider. The model looks fantastic though! So if you just want to put it on the table, it's definitely worth it!

@@earnestwanderer2471 Because in AoS the double was just stupid. These are great changes. In AoS3 good players were not picking the double if they were not sure to slam on it, because now its opponent turn to get the opportunity for a double. In AoS4 you were pushed to pick the double, because your oppo will NOT take it for the sake of battletactics. So you were doing your double, and the oppo were not doing it (because he is low in points now and cannot afford to sacrifice a BT). That was silly and completely unfair, and AoS4 was becoming a stupid game where the first do the double the first is winning. NOW, with these changes, picking the double is again a choiche that requires good planning and execution. Finally we can use the brain again.

I made a video on the different manifestation lores and how Sylvaneth can use them. Other Manifestation Lores are useful, but a little more niche. The TL;DR on Morbid Conjuration is that it 4 manifestations, as opposed to the usual 3, and every one of them is pretty universally useful, whereas other Manifestation Lores usually only have 1-2 decent manifestations that are more situational. Purple Sun in particular is very tough to deal with and the Shackles can really mess up your opponent's movement. And yeah, the huge base on the Suffocating Gravetide is also very useful for move-blocking.

Alarielle and Warsong Revenant can work together, but you'll need to drop either Belthanos or Durthu. Alarielle can buff her casting and you can give Warsong the Spellsinger heroic trait to get +1 to cast as well, bringing you to 5 casts, all at +1. That can be really scary and works great with Morbid Conjuration! If you're talking about the bugriders, just looking at the statistics, they are just OK. Their good movement can make up for the lack of Belthanos. While Alarielle and Durthu act as anvils, you could try running bugriders as hammers. I haven't seen them get used a ton in competitive play, but they seem like a reasonable choice.
