Great review as always. I’ve written off Glenallachie ever since Billy put his signature on everything to try and sell the old juice, albeit re-casked, at much higher prices. Maybe I’ll get one of these new ones… it is getting to be his juice (2017 he bought GA) and he does know what he is doing. He has now some peated GA called Meikle Tòir, which is okay. Specially the one called Turbo - which is very good. BTW, I am going to to be on you neck of the woods these next few days. But more by the “college on the hill” area. Time to check some of those state liquor stores. Slainte!

Again, a very nice review. While I have not had a Billy Walker dram, I have had the Glenallachie 12 Year. Two bottles as a matter of fact. The Billy Walker drams I have had are The Glenglassaugh Evolution and Torfa. Both of those are superb. I am a Billy Walker believer. I look forward to your videos in 2025. Cheers!

Would you recommend that a whiskey novice such as myself would be prudent to stay away from complex whiskies until I was a little more experienced with some conventional ones?
@jamesmorgan9695
@jamesmorgan9695 18 күн бұрын
I would say pick up any bottles you see with a good review while the sales are on, but save them for at least the 3 months it will take for your palate to adapt, plus cut out sugars if you can. Good luck for 2025 @elfblood9127 & let us know if you find your favourite profile.
@pepebruno1672
@pepebruno1672 18 күн бұрын
This is a great question. I wouldn’t… But what I would do is a lot of A and B comparisons. Just try to keep them not super far apart. For example don’t try a Glencadam 10 vs a Port Charlotte 10, because that PC 10 will not let you taste anything after it. I’ve always found amazing notes on Glenmorangie Signet after having a couple of different other drams. These notes never come up when trying it on its own, without comparisons.
@TheSurgeHunter
@TheSurgeHunter 18 күн бұрын
I would say most of the time its a waste of money to spend the extra money on complex whiskies when you are not equipped to even detect the intricacies yet. Its like paying to listen to an orchestra and only hearing the strings. If complex malts for a reasonable price exist in your market, sure... but generally I would start training your palate with more straightforward malts.
@TBWD
@TBWD 12 күн бұрын
I would recommend beginning with simple caskings (a bourbon cask only for instance) and learn some of the difference affected by age and ABV...in the same vein, you can also go the peated route as well (simple casking but peated). Then to move on to finish caskings. But try to find and understand the differences and then move to 2nd and finishing caskings, allowing you to pick up the underlying notes and the impact of the additional flavor profiles. Cheers mate and Happy New Year!

Thats a super new release seeing as how it has the new label design. I still cant believe how much they messed up the labels. It was goofy with the Flintstones labels at first and now its just... boring. I've had the 10 YO CS batch 5 and 7, 15YO and a few old bottles from before Billy Walker. They are inferior to the old GlenDronach in every way to me. I've not had any new GlenDronach since I refuse to buy their Chill-Filtered stuff. Most of the GlenAllachie bottlings have such a high Oloroso cask influence already I dont really see how this would be something "Special" Compared to their normal stuff. I'll have some Edradour ALL DAY over something like this I'd say. Then again I've not had it.
@TBWD
@TBWD 12 күн бұрын
We agree, the labeling has been an 'evolution'. We appreciate your perspective on the comparison to GlenDronach (secret: we've never opened a GD, but have close to 10 on the shelf...come on Randy)...Hopefully we get to do a real Billy Walker side by side with his 'true' whiskies, not just bottles of juice that he didn't oversee from start to finish. Cheers mate and Happy New Year. Season 6 starts mid February!

Outstanding as always gentlemen. First off, "Thank you" to Rick and all our Veterans. Second, 30 years ago when I was new to Scotch I was at a Binny's store when I walked past a gentleman pouring samples of Jura. I had never heard of it and was pleasantly surprised by the sample of 10 year old. I purchased a bottle of the 14 year old immediately and enjoyed it over the next 2-3 years. I need to replace that bottle ASAP, 27 years is too long not having a bottle of Jura in the collection. Thank you and keep up the great work. Cheers...🥃

Outstanding as always gentlemen and for once, I had a bottle to drink along with you. I am an Ardbeg fan and after I saw a review of this bottle by another KZbin whisky reviewer I respect, I picked up a bottle. The reviewer said the barrels were toasted using an infrared method vs. fire. It is supposed to toast deeper and more evenly than fire. The note you posted about the extra mocha toasting of the cask heads is icing on the cake. I really like this bottle. There are extra layers of flavor to it that make it special. Thank you and keep up the great work. Kudos to Larry. Cheers...

Thanks! It was so unexpected to actually experience peat in a Glenfarclas, and if I hear Deborah correctly some of the older expressions also have peat as it was used as a supplemental fuel source for drying the malt, less as an intentional flavor addition...gotta love the old ways! Nice follow-up video. Deborah has to be the best guide on any distillery tour video I've watched. I sure wish we got that 46% 15 year-old here, or that the US had a 46% option. I've had the 12. It was nice, but not a re-buy for me. There's a store near me that has the 17 for $115, which seems to be the best price I can find in the area. I'm tempted now to give that one a try, despite the 43%. Thanks for the tour. A bit jealous of your experience there, I must say. Cheers!

The confusing batch number released and a million special releases just fail to draw the attention of many...
