Dudley Sutton was a great character on the show, but I remember him from that great Oliver Reed film ""The Devils."" (1971) In that role he was a skinny , lanky very young nobleman tasked with bringing a bevy of recalcitrant nuns into line.....they burned Reed.

Malcolm Tierney was fantastic in his role as the gentrified antique dealer and landlord to Lovejoy. Under appreciated by far.

My favorite character is lady jane. It’s ok they do thier flirty back and forth thing but honestly i’m glad they never did cuz to me it preserves that friendship and lets face it she really is too good for lovejoy

The days of saying goodbye with a stiff upper lip. The nation was made of steel. Mrs Maitland, Annabel from Brookside, in fact i think she left halfway through to start filming that.

I loved the 1st series best. Especially when Lovejoy broke the 4th wall and talked to the viewer. Also, Eric used to listen to Def Leppard on his Walkman. Classic.

Watching Lovejoy takes me back to my childhood being a kid growing up in the later 80's/early 90s England. The nostalgia of seeing good old 90's England especially the cars and the clothing, hairstyles etc. The 90's was such a great decade to grow up in and I guess we were the last of our kind as kids. Kids nowadays will never know just how good those days were.

Great TV, especially the early series. Would be interesting to see a modern remake closer to the original novels which are very much darker in tone.

I’ve been binge watching Lovejoy and I’m completely addicted. It’s funny, moving, and it has aged so well. I love Ian McShane as the main character, in fact all the characters are great. Well done to all involved 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

7 episodes are missing from this series which includes the first episode, why? and where are the rest and why does it say in the playlist to the left at the bottom of the window "7 unavailable videos are hidden"?? I can not see that they would be blocked by KZbin when other series from How We Used To Live are fully on YT although admittedly not every series.

Many thanks for this series of interviews. I'd already enjoyed the books and found the idea of a TV series a bonus. They even prompted me to take a couple of holidays in Suffolk. Ian was quite right about the fact that the characters need to remain static. Too many successful series have been spoiled and watered down by "developments", Only Fools and Horses being a prime example.

This was the most real episode for me. Two night before this, (10 - 11 February 1947), my grandfather passed away in his sleep and my Nan and her two children would have had to fend for themselves.

What an adorable child Edward was! That actor is probably retired now, with a pension. I love the warmth and basic optimism of this family, and how they bravely face their circumstances. THANK YOU for posting these episodes. Period details are very interesting, too.
