I wish they would release these on dvd. I loved watching them at school and they are still historically interesting

What an adorable child Edward was! That actor is probably retired now, with a pension. I love the warmth and basic optimism of this family, and how they bravely face their circumstances. THANK YOU for posting these episodes. Period details are very interesting, too.

This music makes me feel kind of sad and nostalgic and well.... Weird.. Time goes so quickly.. 47yrs old... Wonder how old I was when this was broadcast.. What's real mad is this would have been big part of my life and yet so far I don't remember any of what's going on in this.. Maybe in another episode...

Oooh big mistake I noticed... Not usual for schools programmes.. The dad says-- _let me get a word in _*_edgeways_* Although that's the misquoted saying now, back then it was the more correct *edgewise* Silly mistake... Tsssk
@ChristopherSobieniak5 жыл бұрын
I think we Americans still use "edgewise".

A second mistake was when the Mother said about blobs of toothpaste on the basin. It would have been tooth power back in the 30's.

@kimgrattage23956 жыл бұрын
That's how things were back in those days. .Abortion was'nt something people talked about, you had your family and made the best of it. Things were hard, but bear in mind they were more hardened to life back then, times were hard but you got on with it. Ask your older family members who were around during the 30's to the 50's. They will tell you about food and clothing rationing when the war was on.
@solcutta36615 жыл бұрын
In fact she doesn't have many kids.. In this series she was modern... Most families then had 8 or 9 children.. And more even.. Mad... They had so many because mortality was high then so out of 8 or 9 at least 2 or 3 would make it to adulthood.. And forward the genes for family.. True.

@@solcutta3661 Not to mention things like the Pill hadn't been invented yet, so there wasn't that option available even if you wanted it.
@ChristopherSobieniak5 жыл бұрын
@@solcutta3661 This was very common in the days before proper vaccinations and any other safety nets were in place. Having that many kids certainly ensured at least a few may make it in the end.
