Attention to the narc at all times is very true. I have heard them as Attention Whores also. Very needy. Notice me! They need to be noticed. Exhausting to those in this person's periphery. Yet paranoid about what you say about them. Perhaps this is a case of "Any attention is better than none"

I wish i could see and listened this video 15 or 12 or 10 years ago. That could have saved me a life time and a mountain of mental energy. For every evil act of the narcissist in my life I was working on myself, thinking that their action was my fault.

That is precisely why dealing with them in court is so painful. Because we can't, are not allowed to disengage. If only refusing to play their game was an option. If only the courts weren't making so much money out of this horror.

Individuals with narcissistic tendencies can be incredibly malicious. For a significant duration, I have naively cohabitated with a narcissistic partner who secretly maintained two other relationships. I remained oblivious to these deceitful actions until a trustworthy acquaintance advocated that I seek assistance from a cyber professional.

Thanks again Jill, this explains some of the hostility we get from our grown children. A lot of time's they have been exposed to horrible lies they can't process. To ask the other parent would feel like betrayal. That's a hell of a burden to put on children.

Today, I was telling my covert narcissistic mother about someone else’s rude behavior, and she told me not to sound so “strident.” I was very calm when explaining that someone cut in front of me as I was waiting in line at the car mechanic’s shop. She was there too, but sitting in the waiting area, and didn’t see it. I was just mentioning it, and she didn’t want to be “bothered.” But, had it been the other way around, she would have wanted me to validate her experience, and say, “Oh, what a rude guy,” or something to that effect. Instead, she criticized me for letting it “bother” me. I wasn’t really bothered by the rude customer. It was more her reaction that I found disturbing.

I ended up with adrenal fatigue. I was so drained mentally and physically. Doctors kept telling me I was healthy (blood work and stuff) and they assumed I was depressed. I told them I don’t need antidepressants, I’m fricken exhausted! When I went to see a marriage counselor - a psychotherapist - he’s the one who informed me about adrenal fatigue. It took me over a year to recover from it… I had to up my vitamin intake and really focus on my mental health and proper nutrition to get my energy and stamina back. To this day I don’t have the same threshold for stress, and as soon as I see red flags with anyone I meet, I’m hightailing out of there. The best thing you can ever do is avoid all contact with a narcissist. They’re 110% toxic and they will suck the life out of you. And when you have in laws with multigenerational narcissists it’s even worse. I severed ties with them and it’s the best thing I ever did. My husband is a people pleaser. He’s lived his whole life thinking he has to fulfill his narcissistic mothers needs, his narcissistic sisters needs, and his grandmothers too. Thankfully I’ve opened his eyes and counseling helped him realize that boundaries are healthy and that I don’t have to tolerate their abuse. Worst nightmare of my entire life, but I love my husband, he’s a wonderful person. I don’t know how he came from the same bloodline lol. But their bloodline ends here. You couldn’t give me everything in the world to raise a child around them so we opted to not have kids. That’s what narcissism does to families.

When you were messed up and had kids with them and didn’t heal or realize it…absolutely gut-wrenching to have kids with a narcissistic person…no love shown or had..have to beg and cry and it goes nowhere. Yep. This is my husband. Avoids conflict (can’t say no to his family) and always has to cater to his mothers every whim. She’s the biggest narcissist I’ve ever met in my life and so was her mother in law. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. In laws from hell.
