I'm getting some non-manifold geometry after doing the boolean @9:10 which is preventing me from creating a bevel for @10:05. Any advice?
@polyrendr7 күн бұрын
Use the target weld tool/multi cut tool to fix any polys around that boolean you created. There may be some floating polys on some of those edges that are preventing you from beveling. Also once you're happy with the boolean, delete history.

is maya better then blender?
@polyrendr7 күн бұрын
They are both great, it depends on your workflow and personal preference - you can achieve a lot of the same results in both software. Try them both if you can and see which you like better :)
@oskarpalasz11 күн бұрын
Hi, I'm new. Can you explain something to me? I worked in Blender, do you apply subdivision surfaces to models? If it's a game mkdel, then I don't use subdivision surfaces, right?
@polyrendr7 күн бұрын
Yes usually sub division modelling is for higher poly models. If you're creating a game-ready asset, a lot of the time you would use a HP/LP workflow and you could apply sub divisions to your HP mesh to create smooth edges and keep the LP mesh lower in polys to use in-game.

I do the UV's with the 3D Cut and Sow UV Tool in Maya. I also sometimes use automatic UV's on very simple LP objects but majority of the time I manually do them in Maya.

Great video! I've really been enjoying watching these. Do you ever do retopology on these to make them viable as game-assets?
@polyrendr20 күн бұрын
Thank you! I appreciate the comment. For game assets I usually like to start with a LP and then add subdivisons for my HP model but I usually don't do the full HP/LP workflow on this channel just to save time on the videos since I usually do them on my weekends. There will definitely be more game-ready assets down the road though :)

I watched a few of your tutorials and noticed, that you don't sculpt anything on highpoly models for the baking. Is sculpting possible for the subdivision pipeline?
@polyrendr20 күн бұрын
Yes absolutely! You could export the sub divided HP mesh (or LP mesh) to software like Zbrush and then create those sculpting details. I don't do this in my YT videos because it takes a lot more time 😅 I think I've done it in just one video just to show the workflow - with the LP swords. Great idea though, I should consider doing it in more future videos 🙌

@polyrendr25 күн бұрын
It can be competitive, but with dedication and a solid portfolio, it’s definitely achievable! The learning never ends, I'm still learning but it took me a few years of continuous practice to feel fairly confident with it. The more you practice, the better you will get.
