Did you texture without UV mapping it? How? My teacher said we have to UV map our assets first but if we can texture without UV mapping then what's the point of UV mapping

Hi , i have a question, is it necessary to retopo a portfolio asset for game related job or i can just have a subd model also ? I have 2 asset with retopo in my portfolio and now not feeling like to retopo new asset before texturing ( because it take a lot of time )
@polyrendr
@polyrendr 7 күн бұрын
It really depends on the asset. Sometimes SubD is fine if its not too crazy. It can help also showing a breakdown of the asset and/or any information along with it like poly count, sub D levels, etc. I personally think if you already have two retypo assets on there, adding a sub D model would be totally fine. It might also help because it shows a bit of diversity in your asset creation, so I think its a good idea 👍

Thanks for the video! How do you export uvs from maya to substance painter?
@polyrendr
@polyrendr 7 күн бұрын
I used texture sets, so I assigned a material to each set (group) and then when you export the objects the materials export along with them. When you import it to Substance painter they show in the Texture Set List.

How are you getting away with stacking UV's in the 0 to 1 space? Painter usually doesn't handle that well.
@polyrendr
@polyrendr 14 күн бұрын
Each UV set has it own material applied to it, so they aren't technically stacked on top of each other.
@1airdrummer
@1airdrummer 14 күн бұрын
@@polyrendr The ladder legs share the same material but you're saying you stacked those to save space. Did you move any UV's that share the same space, out of the 0 to 1 like to the left or right? TY for the reply.
@polyrendr
@polyrendr 12 күн бұрын
@@1airdrummer No I didn't, they are all in the 0 to 1 space. I didnt use UDIMS, I used texture sets.

Nice model, but there was no such thing as medieval guillotines, they were invented during French Revolution
@polyrendr
@polyrendr 20 күн бұрын
Thanks! You're right the guillotine was technically invented during the French revolution but you could argue the concept was "invented" in earlier times. For example The Halifax gibbet was invented around the middle of the 16th century and was basically the same thing. However the blade wasn't angled like the typical guillotine you see in movies or like it was in France. I'm no historian, and honestly the main reason why its titled "Medieval" is because most people think of the medieval times when thinking of these types of executon devices. What a crazy time to be alive 😆
