Hello! Thank you very much for the video. It is the best I have ever seen. I have a question: Can I use my grown phytoplankton as a starter for my next batch of phytoplankton?

Mirical grow can contain copper. That's why you should never use it for phytoplankton.

I was looking for more lighting options hence why I watched your video as I use T5’s for my culture and yes bleach every time, I let it sit overnight though, and yes keep those copepods a mile away and all that you use for each regardless of how much you rinse them, somehow they seem to get in there even if your 12” away, sometimes i think it’s the air bubbles makes them jump across distance as the bubbles burst. “Shrugging shoulders here” so I have separated everything funnels, bottles, etc, one lot is on one side of the room and the other is on the other wall. So the T5 led lights I have I checked with a spectrum analyser and it’s true T5 grow light, but it’s 20 watts at a close range, and your using 80w at a further range. Just trying to see what works best and somehow my last culture got horrible algae in it so I used it to feed my copepods who didn’t care but I couldn’t put it into my reef tank. Looks like I need to buy another starter culture after 6 months of success. So I can’t complain, right now the 3 litre bottles are soaking in bleach until I get the starter culture so that’s why I have time to see ideas about lighting. Thanks for the video

How do you control ammonia in the hatch tank? Man I already had 4 batches in a road and only saved 7 from batch #2. They are great! I have a batch #5 coming by next wednesday and I would like one more time to save them. I tried everyting and it is really frustating. I have a 10 gallons hatch tank with heater, light and air stone. I'm culturing rotifers in a jar from my last purchased. I bought 1 million., I dont know if it is enough. Sometimes I dont know how much to feed because the ammonia. I will really appreciate any information.

I just want to say this video is so descriptive and well-made. I appreciate all the help, especially with every little detail. I think I am going to wait until my next batch of eggs arrives before attempting the whole survival approach to try to get these little guys to live, as I was not prepared for my 1st batch of eggs I was surprised with! But do u happen to have a list of the recommended tanks, foods, and additives to best prepare for the next round of eggs to aid in survival? Thanks so much!

Hi. Can you confirm for me... i have been trying to find comparisons/differences/markers to look for, of green dragon vs common bristlenose... the only thing i consistantly see in videos of green dragons, is that when young, babies have white tips on the tail.... is this in fact a distinguishing feature to look for when trying to identify green dragons? Tx 👊

@shotbru7 ай бұрын
how can you determine if the culture has crashed? I have just started growing but it seems that there is 'algae' growing on the bottom of the tank, almost like the phytoplankton has settled on the bottom and the rest of the tank the colour is lighter than what it was at the start a week ago, i added more fertilizer to the tank over the weekend but today, Monday, it seems it didn't make a difference? I cant' find any youtube video showing a crashed phytoplankton culture or what to look for?

few questions.....i noticed you completely covered the tank with black plastic. how do you get away with not allowing gases to escape? I can only assume you don't do any water changes during this time? How long do they stay in that tank before you move them to another tank? How long can they go before the water becomes toxic?

Good and informative video, liked and subscribed! I'm glad I just stumbled on your channel while figuring out how to identify Alder and where to look for it in my area. Actually it's a really awesome coincidence because I live about 30 minutes North of Barrie, so I was happy when you mentioned it because now I know I should have great luck finding them in my area since you're fairly close by from the sound of it. I know it's been a while since this video was posted, and perhaps someone else has already mentioned this, but it seems that there should be an opening in the top of your DIY filter to allow water to rise through the center pipe and back out to the rest of the bucket, like an under-gravel filter bubble lift. It would thus pull more water through the filter and circulate it back out. I do see the bubbles coming out at the top later in the video, so maybe you have this, but it wasn't clear in the video.
