Back and sides are laminate. With the Westerly Collection guitars, if it starts with a 2, it's solid top, laminate back and sides. 1 is all solid. The new 3s are all laminate bodies. It should be noted that all Guild arch back flat tops, wherever and whenever made, have laminate backs.

Five years later... do you still have and play it? How has it held up? I'm looking at one of these or a Cozart Tele 12 string (for perhaps a P90 pickup swap) as an inexpensive instrument. Thanks for your video.

Thanks for this...I sprung for one a few weeks ago and you described it perfectly. Bit of setup work and was ready to go. Surprisingly good sound for a small rig. I agree though..this is my 4 th HarleyB and they do punch well above, but not that high. Played a Martin mahogany 000 last summer and wow! But at 2100$ Canadian, that's for the next life...at least for us pensioners! :) Enjoyed your video very much...again, thank you.

Saw your video on string spacing. I have been looking for a guitar with a slightly wider night and wider string spacing. I don't have fat fingers but I have arthritis in my knuckles which when playing doesn't allow me to bend my finger enough without touching the string below. I've been using a classical guitar that has a 48 mm nut but it is really too wide. If anyone could suggest a guitar that has a wider string spacing I'd appreciate it.

I have fingers like blind cobblers thumbs and cant play a guitar with 43 mm nut width. Keep pressing too many strings. My hands are not massive just fat fingers. Cant play E chord cant play A chord with 3 fingers. Going to try a Cort guitar with a 48mm

well, if they do shoddy work, then I don't even consider them luthiers. I've never worked on any guitar just to get it done quickly, & I've given clients choices between more & less expensive repairs, but always explain the differences. The quality of your work is your reputation, & whether or not your name will be passed around by reference for future clients. The quality of your work determines future work

that's a lovely little classical. I have one, a Paul Beuscher that i picked up in a little guitar shop in La Rochelle while vacationing in France back in 2010. I like to string it with Savarez nylon 520R. They seem to offer well rounded mids & bass that I like when finger picking

I have a couple of Kremona's. A regular Romida, a custom built Romida 7 string they made for me and about to acquire another one (Solea). They are excellent value for the money. Private luthiers hate Kremona's because they are so great and affordable. And hand made in Bulgaria at their own private factory.

In 2023 I happened to spot one of these, brand new at GC, discounted to an unadvertised price of $249. After 10 minutes of playing it I knew it was a steal. Bought it and now I like to play it tuned very low, almost like a baritone guitar, and it handles that range very well. Very comfortable, and the playability is outstanding. Looks nicest in the charcoal burst color.

These are amazing guitars but there’s serious quality control issues. I currently own two of them and both have the box coming apart. In one the top separated from the rest at the bottom near the end pin and other had the same issue with the back. Perhaps there’s not enough support underneath, they used bad glue or simply due to the lack of any kind of binding. It’s easy enough to fix with some good glue and clamps but definitely worth considering.

300-350$ wouldn't pay over 400$ though. Couldn't they at least have made it different a little bit more different than a Les Paul changed the knob layout or something. Looks like they really focused on a Les Paul with creating it.

Around since 1943.Not so sure about original motives to invent it and produce it but probably nothing to do with ebony mimicry, guitars, and tree conservation. Seems a bit of a strange thing to do with paper and put time and effort in to the tooling and manufacturing without a money/ marketing insight.

I find mine hard to play. The action is extra low, but it has seven courses x 2 strings and the pegs are a violin type, so tuning it isn't the easiest, and it is missing few strings and I was so far unable to find adequate ones. Great that you can restore your own instruments, I lack the guts. And I have plenty to be restored. My best guitar smells like a heaven and is as loud as a boomstick, but it is completely warped and cracked belly and back, but the body is Brazilian palisander, currently unavailable and in CITES, so I just play it with the huge action it has and I am extra careful about it. My oldest instrument is a bass viol cca 1500 and it is completely tragic, unplayable, I bought it because it was old. And my 4/4 double bass needs restoration too, someone glued a piece of wood with epoxy inside.

@@FlowforthInstruments Thank you. I agree but it will require steaming. I don't have a lute guitar, just guitars, and one renaissance-like lute, but it is old with violin-like pegs, hard to tune, and I lack replacement strings, it needs 14, so I am not playing it at the moment.
