I'm late about 2 years but I'll say this anyway: All those boring episodes, the filler episodes, the goofy monologues, the stupid references... boring, too boring y'know, like "it puts me to sleep" kind of boring...then suddenly you're at a scene where all hands are on deck, stakes are high, everything is ending, and there you see Gin-chan fighting like he will never get the chance to goof around anymore. At this point those goofy af episodes become diamonds because you see that the entire anime is ending, going full speed ahead no brakes, you can't stop it.

Every time I recommend this to someone I send them this video. Great job

Silco was the best character, my fakking go, he is THE best villain Ive ever seen. He beats Darth Vader, Thanos, Hannibal Lecter, all of them. None even comes close. To me the slave discourse on Eren is focusing on one thing while missing key points. Freedom is a very theoretical concept. For instance, if I ask you can you fly? The answer will be no, but it would make no sense to think you're not free because you can't. It's just a component of human nature, and reality by extension. In a similar manner, Eren thinking he and his friends can live a life free from the weight of history and inherited grudge is as unrealistic as wanting to fly. To that extent trying to achieve such a practical conception of freedom is alienating, even monstrous. Eren made freedom a way of life while absence of freedom is the very essence of existence. He could have chose to become a voice for justice, peace and tolerance, which would have been as insignificant as buying a couple years of life for his friends in the grand scheme of things. However, it would have been something he wouldn't have been conflicted while doing, as he fought for his freedom by taking that of every human being. The conflict whithin himself could be considered enslavement to some extent, but that's not the point. More than anything, Eren lacked wisdom. It is true that wisdom leads to contemplation and acceptance, contrasting with the adolescent systematic fighting approach to every situation.

He was Math teacher in 9th grade asnd had him a couple more times..i was 16yrs in 2009. After finishing 457 animes to this day, Gintama still share my top 1 with Evangelion.

It's also a big factor how you start it. If someone recommends it to you, you will automatically have a certain set of expectations that comes with disappointment. I didn't have that disappointment because I started the show on my own. I never had that "slow paced feeling" and even tho i didn't fully understand 100% of the jokes (because a lot of it is very based on the japanese language, history and culture and doesn'treally hit the same as a western), nor were all of them exceptionally funny (some of them were weird, but they had the charme of that certain weirdness), I never thought particularly bad about these.

I think the people who immediately knew she was evil experienced something bad in their life already, so they're already on edge and mistrust characters/people. I have trust issues, so I never thought she was going to be a good character.

Hearing you talk about Gintama, and then looking up the Nux video you reference & hearing him talk about Gintama, made me realize this show truly changes people! Anyone who watches Gintama speaks like this. It has this effect that makes people want to talk about it, but know it's hard to explain. It dominated MAL's top 10 for years, but many people thought it was a comedy/gag anime & mostly avoided it. But what makes Gintama so great to me is the characters. There is so much personality & sincerity in each one (and there are dozens of them), that the deeper you go into the series, the more invested in every little thing they do you become.

Man the only thing I hate in the manga is how they show girls panties so casually. It makes me barf. Flashing both girl and boy parts can be traumatizing. Except that I loved it.

I started watching around 2009, I was hooked episode one and nothing has ever been the same. It's that one anime I lay in bed and think about even so many years later. Still remember stupid stuff that live in my head for days, not knowing that it even came from Gintama. I can not express how incredibly happy I am that you yourself see how amazing it is.

GTO is one of the best mangas I have ever read, it's also worth reading Shonan Junai Gumi, the previous manga in the GTO timeline detailing Onizuka and Ryuji's high school years, as well as Bad Company, a prequel to SJG written right before GTO detailing how Onizuka and Ryuji met. They're all great.

This manga is depressingly great, one of my favorites. Hell you want a manga to hate, read Blood on the Tracks.

Just saying, that I started to get deep with Gintama universe, after episode 50. Gintama is beyond anime, and a REAL anime. When I say “that specific anime is a masterpiece” is so so so rare, I watched more than 150 plus animes; and just two animes I consider a masterpiece: HxH & AOT. The third MASTERPIECE is Gintama 🙏🏼🩵🤍🪐🎇 🌃🍶🩵🤍🙏🏼. Amen.
