This method doesn't work for me (version 18.6.6). I have a two minute 1920x1080 HD, 30fps timeline where the majority of it has at least 3 or 4 stacked clips (actually only photos) and a couple of places where there is as many as 10 stacked clips. I put the entire timeline in a compound clip, turned on all caching options and waited until the timeline finished caching (solid blue line across the top of the entire timeline). Playback is at best 20 fps (so playback is still very choppy). One interesting thing is that I have a couple of seconds at the beginning and end of the timeline that are simply a solid black clip and those clips also only playback at around 20 fps. I've been battling this issue for over a week, watched probably a couple dozen KZbin videos on caching and none have provided a solution for me (unfortunately, including this one). I have six other timelines in my project, none of which have more than 3 stacked clips (again photos), and all for them playback at 30 fps when fully rendered (and without placing them in a compound clip). So I don't think it is my system or setup. The only way I found to see a clean playback of this particular timeline is to render it (or a portion of it) out to a file on the Deliver Page. However, this not a very efficient workflow. I'm fairly new to DR and would really like to figure this issue out.

Tried it with Davinci resolve 18 and footage of the gopro 12. Even a single video on 1/16 has choppy playback. My laptop is an I5, 20gb ram, software installed on the 1tb harddrive. Could it be the problem that it has to work from the harddrive instead of the SSD?

Excellent video. :) 26:30 some people will get things for free and still complain. As someone who only uses Resolve to cut screen recordings, I find it very interesting that it's had only color grading features for so long, since I never used it, nor do I have any use for it. Still somehow the best free application for editing screen recordings as far as I know. I'm also surprised it was originally Linux based. I tried it on Linux as well as on Windows, and I noticed it doesn't support audio/video in various formats in Linux that are supported on Windows. You asked what I think will change in the future. I hope this will change. :)

There are three main ways to adjust contrast: -Contrast wheel : fastest, will loose data and give a distinct look, -Gain + Shadow wheel : favorite method, works for most of the shots, doesn't give much look, -White curve : takes more time but is the best method for shots that need a lot of adjustment and dynamic range, doesn't give any look.

Thanks. This is great. Also then if you already have a good selection in the timeline and want to save it for reuse you can use match frame and then enter the markers.

I think they are really really smart by doing this. Finally they will be the biggest company in this industry! For example i love davinci, and because of that my future hardware i wil buy from blackmagic design. There camera's are top notch and i love blackmagic design on the other hand for giving me free software to develop myself as a filmmaker. They have a bright future, for sure !!!

I'm not sure if the time taken to name the markers make us gain time instead of IN and OUT. It's a different way of work, maybe better for very detail pre-planned editing like in documentary.

@@RI.Action the upside from what i learnt in this video is that you can drag the markers across the clip if wanted to change the portion of the shot your working on.. rather than remarking IN and OUT.

What do I do if I followed the first step of trying the auto correction on each colour channel and it still doesn't work? It looks really grey out and washed out. What could have possibly gone wrong? I'm using 18.6 free version BTW.

Glad to see you producing videos again! I still have access to the bundle pack I purchased almost three years ago. I learned a lot from those courses. Now, I'm going to view your fairlight course because sound is so much fun too!! I must confess to rarely using the curves these days, if at all. I am a BMD production house and I only shoot in BRAW. My current film project was shot on location at a restaurant that was a WB nightmare. My color correction procedure is to first check the clip itself and make changes from there, e.g. exposure, tint and color temp. From there I learned a process using the "blob" on the vector scope and the offset dial. A million ways to do things in resolve! I am fortunate because I grade as a filmmaker/artist instead of being trapped in a client/vendor scenario. Many thanks to you for helping me find my way.

That’s really helpful stuff for a noob like me😂 but I’ve got the idea of „the node tree” I would call, so basically u tell resolve what color system you use, and it translates information to fit it to your monitor, I’ll try to work on dcp-I and rec709 as my monitor support 100% of this color spaces.
