Be aware, the shadow and highlight in primaries it effects the texture of the image, that mean it's a spatial tool so it can produce an artifact

I am using the same technique the last years, especially when they sent me footage from cheap cameras with low dynamic range. I usually set the shadows to 50 (maximum 70) and the highlights to -100. Instead of auto color I am using curves afterwards. I am using also a sat vs sat curves to lower the saturation of the over-saturated areas.

I do have a question: I record (DJI Mini 3 Pro & DJI Osmo Action 3) in Auto 24fps/4K at night/low light, & Auto 30fps/K daytime, with no ND filters, unless at beach with M3P, Which color format would these steps work best with? Regular profile? or D-Cinelike/M-Log footage? I've been using regular... Will these steps work effectively with my footage? or moving forward, start using the flat footage? Thanks in advance!

It's preserving information that autocorrect shouldn't lose, but does - no blown out highlights (because you turned them down) and no black shadows (because you turned them up). You get maximum dynamic range, kind of like taking a picture in RAW.

Great technique, thank you! Could you please make the preview window as big as possible? At least hide the clips pane. A lot of people watch your videos from mobile and they cannot see mush when the interface is cluttered. There are special tools for zooming to the parts of the screen. And also when you open the video about the color grading, you expect excellent video quality and color grading itself but here I see you in front of super bright window and you not in focus. This all not critical but reduces the overall impression.

Interestingly when I tried this on a piece of footage it turned the sky red. - other parts of the video looked reasonably okay.

In the first image, you still have the halo on the rail bottom right. The halo is worse there than on the mirror and your adjustments did not fix it. Perhaps not the best method for this particular kind of image?
