If you stil have it, just make a catch lever yourself out of aluminium. Even though it was still under warranty at t he time, I didn't want it to break again on a shot, so I made one. It took me a day to do it, but I only had a cheap drill stand, a hack saw and a file.

Charging through the lighter in your car is not a long term solution. I would only use the lighter in a pinch and instead slap a flexible solar panel on the roof of your car if you're on the go, or set up solar panels when parked when you can't plug it in to a wall. Relying on your lighter puts a lot of strain on your alternator/battery and shortens the life of both by a significant margin. Your miles may vary but i was changing out my battery and alternator every 6 months running a 150w inverter through my lighter, charging phones, tablets, drone and nikon camera. If I'm doing something wrong I'd love to hear it but i feel like it's pretty straight forward.

Nah, too expensive for what you get; still buying the Sirui SVS75 kit.
@danbrockettDOP
@danbrockettDOP 21 күн бұрын
We own both, the Sirui kit and three of the Flowtech 75s and Aktiv 8s. There is simply no comparision. B&H has the Flowtech 75 with the Aktiv 8 with the Touch and Go plate for $2,999.00 on holiday sale right now, almost $1,000 off for year end sale. I bought the Sirui on a lark just to see how their legs compared to the Flowtechs. The Sirui legs are horrible, the collars for the spreader are prone to breakage so I just removed the spreader. The leg locks don't have a distinct click or lock down like the Flowtechs, so you will always be questioning if the Sirui legs are actually locked. The Sirui head is better than the legs but it's still not even close to our Sachtlers. Buy once, cry once, the Sachtler will last your entire career, the Sirui stuff will fall apart with a couple of years of hard usage. Learn the hard way or the easy way. The hard way is wasting hundreds or even thousands on subpar tripods and heads over years, having them fall apart and discarding them or just buy the best (besides O'Connor) out of the gate and then get on with shooting.

@@danbrockettDOP The Schatler only has a 2-year warranty. The Sirui has a 6-year warranty. Doesn't seem like Schatler is very confident in their product. I still bought the Sirui tripod.

@danbrockettDOP 11 күн бұрын
@@andynonimuss6298 Congratulations! Hmm...I've owned half a dozen Sachtlers throughout my multi decade career. I've used them in harsh conditions including the Sahara Desert, the Amazon Rainforest and on the decks of racing boats getting drenches in 13 foot waves. The only time any of my Sachtlers have ever required a service in about 25 years of production was once I was shooting a helicopter landing on a sandy bluff up in Santa Barbara. The helicopter landed about 40 feet near me but I was required to shoot directly underneath it with it about 50' above me. The prop wash was insane and ever piece of gear I was using had tons of sand blown into every crevice and crack, including my Sachtler Video 18 II head. I returned it to Sachtler service for a disassembly and cleaning, which they did for free and it was good as new. I've never had a Sachtler tripod head or legs break, bend or crack. OTOH, the first time I opened my new Sirui SVS75 and spread the legs, the leg spreader collar attachments snapped off. They sent me new ones but I didn't bother because the legs were pretty beefy and I didn't want to risk breaking the collars again, they're made out of cheap pot metal, so I just put the spreader in a gear closet where they sit to this day. Not saying the Sirui are a bad product for the money, I guess they aren't when compared to junky stuff like Manfrotto and Benro. Comparing them to a Sachtler, side by side, doing the same moves with the same load shows what you are paying for and getting. As far as warranty length, I got the impression from the rep at NAB rep that they were doing such a long warranty to get a leg up in the marketplace for pros as up to this point this year, they were mainly known for low end consumer tripods, not for heavier duty pro stuff and longer warranty is a fair market strategy. I don't even think a Sirui rep would tell you that they are competing directly for Sachtlers customer, they are going for lower end users and fair enough, it's a much larger market. When money is tight, Sachtlers aren't cheap although they have came way down in cost as cameras and loads have become smaller and lighter. My Video 18 II head alone was $8,500 back in the early 2000s whereas you can get the Aktiv 8 head AND the Flowtech legs for under $3k on sale and arguably, this is the modern, sort of equivalent. Cameras in the late 90s and early 2000s weighed a ton compared to an FX6 or Pyxis so you had to have a much larger, heavier tripod than you do today for the average user. Let us know how your Sirui works out for you once you get a few shoots under your belt with it. I still have mine and I find it useful particularly for telepromper shoots as it holds about 5lbs more than the Aktiv 8s do. I like the Sirui head much more than the legs. The legs are so so while the head is a notch better but it's still just adequate with some weird designs and features. I bought it as an experiment on their IndieGoGo and for the money, I didn't give it to a friend, I still find places to use it. In the bag, the legs and tripod are REALLY heavy though, don't like that part.

Add 1 or 2 clicks to the bottom tensioner for better grip. These tripods need maintenance, as described in the manual, and sometimes need a small adjustment. I'd say at least once a year to a full maintenance cycle, and check everything to spec.

I have the exact same setup for a year and a half now and it’s still holding up. Love it! I was worried about the test of time with these since they aren’t as expensive and have more plastic parts than a traditional Sachtler tripod. I’ve put the two I have thru hell via my shoots, renting them out and traveling with them both are nearly as good as the day i bought them. Plus i love seeing people reactions when they use the level for the first time.

Its called the MonMount6800B. I got it on eBay years ago but its still around: amzn.to/3WuEcAh eBay and Newegg has it too. The bamboo piece is a kitchen cutting board, that was the perfect size to hold my mid size PCs, and match with the desk. It is not a requirement, I just think it looks good so I added it to the mounts: amzn.to/4cAJzTP (Removed the rubber legs from the board and using it upside down)

Cool video man! about the staining on your woodtops, you probably put the monitor there before it was completley dried in? Then also, not sure how you stained over the clearcoat, that doesnt seem right to me, usually you do clearcoat at the end. Either way, if it was up to me, I would get mousemats to the same size as the tabletops, that way I wouldnt have to do much more with the tabletops. I love cleaning up setups, I went from multiple displays and now I only have the bare minimum, no cables no clutters etc. Best feeling in the world
@DavidMonostori
@DavidMonostori 6 ай бұрын
The stain is factory, I didn't do it. I had this desk for about 4 years. Nothing has stained it before, so I have no idea what happened. It stained the clearcoat somehow, and I am afraid to do any crazy removal tactics because I don't want to scratch or matte it out. The shape matches the bottom of the monitor base, which has a black rubber/plastic thing on it, probably for slip protection but as it was sitting there for about a year, it stained. It almost looks like some dye, as it's not totally black, you can still see the woodgrain through it.

There are a handful of cameras that are compatible! A7SIII, A7IV, A1, A7RIV and possibly the A7RV. You need a compatible Smallrig cage, and the adapter plate: Smallrig MD4019 I'm using the Smallrig 3639 Half Cage for my A7SIII. That way you can lock the handle onto the cage similarly to an FX3/FX30 and it's secure! 4CH 24bit audio, CH1 and CH2 are the XLRs, and CH3 is the stereo jack that I use with the tentacle sync timecode box. Check the FB marketplace for handles, there are a lot for sale with good prices!
