Super helpful video. Owned the radio for a while and didn't know of this capability. I find myself wondering if the information being beaconed, with the repeater information, needs that information in a certain place on the test message for that to work. For instance I noticed that the text portion had the frequency and other details in a particular order. Figure that, in order to QSY with the button, that sequence of the information needs to be there, but not really sure.

K5ORN - Thank you for this excellent concise demonstration of the range and voice quality comparison between digital and analog on the Yaesu radios. I'd read that analog has a slightly longer range, but suspected that was at the extreme edge of range where analog reception is barely intelligible. The analog in your demonstration was intelligible but would be fatiguing. The digital transmission was very clean. It's almost enough to make me want to put up a System Fusion repeater. I've read that the Group ID features didn't work through a Fusion repeater. If so, that's a shame. It seems that as long as the repeater doesn't fall back to analog through Automatic Mode Select, the repeater should be able to transmit the Group ID data in digital modes.

Thanks for this. I guess I missed the piece in the manual about having to be in VFO mode. Wish it worked regardless of V or M mode but glad to know now how it works. 73!

Was going to just get the FT-70 but now that they’ve updated the firmware on the FT2 I’m looking toward that.

Nice video! If I use an FT2DR to connect to a local repeater that is connected to Wires x, should I change it back to the normally connected room after I'm done if I changed it to another room? I'm thinking if it's like D-STAR linking & unlinking on a Reflector back to its normal state.

Interesting note on the 400 returning to VFO mode out of Wires-X. I was playing around with my 400 that I've had about a week and noticed that. I thought I had done something wrong until I saw you comment about it. Thanks!

If I try to create a connecting point, is it possible to do an acces with PMR frequencies ? The french rules are uneasy, and connecting HAM to Internet isn't really legal even if many users are ignoring these rules. You have to get a permission and exceptions are rare, even to disconnect your relay through Internet if something is going wrong.

Great vid. I didn't know that the 100 had direct wires X access based on their specs listed on sellers sites etc. Can you comment on what the optional wiresX node controller adds beyond what this vid shows? Is that if you wanted to make your radio into a WiresX repeater instead of using an existing repeater that offers wiresX access? Also if you switch to a different room on the repeater can other users be in other rooms at the same time? Thank you
