As a new driver I completely appreciate your content. I know it’s not always possible but if so it would be better to have a camera man filming you only because there a few things here and there that you do that are blinded to the viewer which may be a vital step. Nonetheless you are doing a top notch job at teaching us all less experienced drivers and I thank you. Safe travels friend 🙏

I have thought about getting a camera person but at this time I can’t justify the expense maybe later down the road or if I am in certain areas I will. I appreciate you watching and I hope it does continue to help you on your journey and keep you safe as well

@@roadlifewithchris1053 I’ve got 1 1/2 weeks left of CDL school and I’m feeling pretty good about my pre trip inspection/air brakes and my straight backs as well. Last step is polishing up my offset backing skill. A little tricky but I’m figuring it out day by day.

Have you ever accepted a dry van type load to get out of a tough area? Can you back up to a dock and be loaded with dry van type stuff?

Yes some things that dry vans can haul we can haul as well I have seen many dry vans loading the same product that is loaded on our trailers and yes we can back up to docks we do at many places to load products such as wall board plywood osb and lumber

Dot don't ask to pull opposite...a 48 feet trialer only have winches on the driver side

Correct DOT does not require opposite pull and many trailers are set up with winches on one side many however have the track for winches on both sides and can be set up with opposite pull. That is a driver preference and I am showing how I do things including my preference I don’t believe I stated that opposite pull was a DOT requirement I believe I was speaking to the spacing between straps

I use a microwave air fryer oven combo as well to make many things like biscuits or lasagna I even roast pork or beef with onions carrots potatoes celery in the oven. No matter what you use to cook your meals it’s healthier and tastier than truck stop food. Would love to see truck stops offer more options for us drivers that like to cook for ourselves.

Many people don’t think bigger men can do flat bedding but they are wrong. I take my time and do it right it’s not a race I see many of the smaller folks struggle or cut corners because they think it’s a race. No matter the size slow down and think about safety so everyone gets home to their families.

Using a side pocket in the rub rail that is parallel with the hole your passing the chain through will NOT hold it perfectly from sliding side to side. Either run your chains forward or backwards to a pocket to hold the unit in place and of course keep it consistent with each pocket. So if you run you chain away from the unit do so on every corner and the same if you run your chain inward pulling the corners of the unit in but my preference is to have the chains pull outward and cross them so the back chains pull backwards and to the opposite side and the front chains pull forward to opposite sides.

it changes from state to state and depends on if any damage was done to other vehicles or if it caused injury to anyone but at minimum you will receive a citation for improper load securement.

Thank you for providing education for your viewers, it's always good to have someone out here making content for those eager to learn. Gonna pick it apart now lol... There's a case to be made regarding how to hook your straps on both sides of the "argument", for lack of a better word. In your example of how you do it the down side would be what happens if/when the strap becomes loose for various could-be reasons. I.E. load shifting a little, loosening the strap....the hook could simply fall off the rail and dangle, not securing anything, to any degree, at that point and there would only need to be about 3 inches of slack created for this to occur. A DOT wrap faces the multiple stitching and multiple layered side outward to resist abrasion and cuts, by design this type of wrap is protective. Federal reg doesn't require alternating pull to be in compliance, that is company policy and/or personal preference. Federal does NOT require 2 in the last 10....also, on that note, when articles of cargo are blocked from forwarded movement or placed in a position where it (forward movement) is prevented by bulkhead, other secured cargo, etc.. you are not required to place an additional tie-down in the first 10 ft. This is a misconception by many drivers that don't read their regulation book and continue on the word of whichever previous company(s) told them this. As always, you can use as much as you want, I'm just speaking on minimums.

i appreciate your comments. some trailers do not have hook pockets and keepers like fountaine trailers typically have and if the rub rail is rated with a WLL then the use of a DOT wrap is acceptable. i have spoken with multiple DOT officers in Oklahoma and Texas and if a trailer has designated securement points (Hook Pockets) it is preferred that they be used. you are correct alternating pull is not required by FMCSA it is a personal preference. also no the FMCSA does not specifically say 2 in the last 10 but it does discuss that you have 1 securement for every 10 feet of product so following that guideline will automatically give you the 2 in the last 10. I will do a better job of explaining that in the future to reduce any confusion. Texas, Oregon and Washington have stricter guidelines and require a securement every 5 feet. and you are correct that if forward movement is blocked by a bulkhead or other secured cargo then you dont need to throw an extra tie down however on loads such as lumber or plywood/osb on a standard flatbed without a bulkhead it is recommended to throw an additional tie down on the leading stack to prevent forward movement. again thank you for your comments discussions like this is an amazing way to help each other and learn new skills and methods

awesome, yes some units require straps instead of chains depends on the shipper. places like Greenheck in tulsa are 95% chain and then places like johnson controls its 95% strap ill be making a video on the straping of units next time i get a strap load.
