I'm confused. Some michigan cos practical sites say you need to polish all 5 fingers, some say come with a pinky polished in which the first step is to remove the polish, then I'm your answer to another which says you come with all fingers painted. UGH! I'm not fresh out of school, and it seems impossible for someone like me to get a straight answer on? Psi site?

I go by the basic manicure procedure in the Milady 14th edition book and it says that the nail painting step is optional. When you think about it, for a basic manicure, it does not always include polishing! That's just how I've been teaching it. The practical state board test is really only looking for following directions, and performing services safely and sanitary. I hope this helps! Are you able to throw items in the multi and single use bins with gloves on without removing and sanitizing before touching client again?

the reasoning behind it is because think about it like you're touching the garbage can, youll want to sanitize ur hands after reaching in there! so taking off gloves and resanitizing is better for being on the safe side!

I noticed you removed all the bowls from the chemical services. So if we are not distributing the product into the bowls what are the spatulas for? Are we not just dipping are brushes into the simulated color/lightner? I’m kinda confused

The spatulas are for applying the protective/base cream! Also yes, just dipping your brushes into the container - no bowls needed!

Do you have to use a new cape for each exam? Do you have to paint all the nails before the exam or is it just the pinky nail?

you only need to remove the polish on the pinky, so just polish the pinky before you go into your exam! you will be draping for haircutting, chemical wave, and then a new drape for blowdry styling. the draping for facial is a towel and headband/cap.

No loose, bulky clothing, scarves, hoodies, vests, jackets, shawls, cardigans and no hats or headgear unless worn for religious reasons. Do not wear a smart watch either! Wear something appropriate, basic and comfortable.

Did they stop requiring that you have to do acrylic overlay? When doing a facial do you use a different mannequin and do you have to do effleurage Petessage tapamoit? Massage techniques and do you do a massage on your hand mannequin? Do you also have to put a eyelash on?

This is based on the update from Nov 2022. You can use the same mannequin and its not required to show the massage motions but it's good to know them! You also do have to massage the hand for the manicure. No eyelash application for Michigans exam!

Bruh....if you sanitize yo hands one more time😂. I only sanitized mine and my mannequin hand 1 time before the service. And passed the first time for my manicuring license.

Idk if Cosmetology is any different but I've been told you could fail every hands on things you do but if your Sanitation is good you'll still pass, so I'm sure as hell going to over sanitize to ensure I pass 😭

this is just the procedure for basic facial. it could be different for esthetics. cosmetologists can perform facials, waxing ect.

I'm in the same boat. I didn't catch they were going go paperless reminders and it was the beginning of covid and it just slipped my mind. The written exam was troubling as psi practice tests did nothing to prepare me, I guess they are hoping you fail and come back and buy the non free tests. Just a word of warning. The free psi cos practice tests are not helpful! I did pass and now in less than 2 weeks, I need to do my practical test. Need straight answers for what is required! Are you in Michigan and can you help?

I am only knowledgeable for the cosmetology practical exam, but you do not need to polish or do acrylics! It could be different for the esthetics/nail tech test. The antiseptic is just a basic cleanser but since it's just a practical, you can use cholesterol.

As far as I'm aware, you're responsible for brings everything needed for your practical test and they don't provide anything for you. My instructors asked me if I had a stand and told me I could borrow one of theirs, but you can also order one off of Amazon. I'm taking one that clamps to the table, as it'll be easier for me to use

You will have to toss it into the multiuse bin, sanitize your hands (or change gloves & sanitize) and then continue as normal! Say if you're out of gloves, just mimic the motion and keep going :)

For state board, since it's just on a mannequin, you can use just water for toner and even chlorestorol for the cleanser and moisturizer! Just as long as the bottles are labeled appropriately!
