To this day they still include the App State score in the score scroll during games in the Big House.

Man, Appalachian State really kicked a field goal on 1st and goal with 30 seconds left... They're lucky they blocked the kick on the other end, never should have left that much time on the clock in the first place.

Stupid for IU to fire Crean. Crean got good recruits and developed these recruits. Now, Crean fired, goes to Georgia, can't get the recruits, other than Anthony Edwards. And, IU hired idiot Archie Miller. Now, IU has Woodson, and Woodson is a good coach, but can Woodson get top talent like Zeller and Oladipo and OG Anunoby and Troy Williams and Yogi Ferrell and Thomas Bryant and all the other great talent that Crean brought to Bloomington?

My father and I, along with a few friends, had season tickets during this era of IU football. Since my dad passed away this game is one of my fondest memories with him. Thanks for posting this.

App State could have eliminated the drama of Michigan's last drive and field goal attempt if they had snapped the ball once they got to the 5 yard line. Quarterback takes a knee keeping the clock running which forces Michigan to use it's final time out. App State then snaps the ball again on 2nd and goal, the clock starts running with Michigan unable to stop it on 3rd and goal. App State runs the clock down to 5 or 6 seconds, the quarterback spikes the ball to stop the clock, then kicks the field goal to tin with no time left on the clock. Then again, it worked out fine the way it went.

Cheatapari tucked tail and has hidden from IU since then. IU's administration was dumb enough to fire their honest coach and replace him with some hack from Dayton.

Great win by App State. I would have centered the ball to run the clock, waited until UM used all time outs, then spiked it with about 5-10 secs left to prevent what almost happened. Great ass win

A Quality man....I played for him in the 80s, though he wasn't my position coach. I always liked and respected him as did our entire team. Shortly before graduating in 1990, my dad was killed in a car accident, funeral was in Dayton 3 days later. 2 coaches from my team showed up unannounced. One was Coach Hoeppner. A quality man. Ill never forget that gesture, Hep.
