That’s pretty awesome. I think I would have the seat more level with the floorboard like in a real car. Having the chair leaning back like that looks strenuous on the neck. But other than that, nice build.

This is amazing work. Will there be an upgrade route from your 2dof to your 3dof model? I see your links at mantis and am very interested, just wondering whether to wait or not.
@mikeyearly
@mikeyearly 2 ай бұрын
Yes the current 2dof is fully upgradeable to the 3dof. Saying that, I'm looking at simplifying this even further by standardising the design so it's even easier to upgrade. The 3dof is maybe 1-2 months away. Final testing has been completed, I just need to create the assembly instructions and order in some of the new parts

WOW...that's a big improvement from the wood-2dof. More responsive. I was planning on a 2dof, but now I see your 3dof fully suspended and I like it very much. Can I ask a couple of questions? 1) which worm motors did you use: I see they manage your weight very well. 2) do you know if the controller can use the movements of the cars instead of the accelerations? Indeed, I think that is better that the platform will replicate the roll, dig and heave of the car instead of use that movements to replicate the accelerations.
@mikeyearly
@mikeyearly 2 ай бұрын
Motors are 24v 400w with 1:60 gearboxes. The game outputs all telemetry data and you can choose which ones you want to use. I mostly have pitch roll and heave, with a small amount of surge and sway (using pitch and roll of the sim) which feels more like suspension compression rather than gforces
@TheAngorTube
@TheAngorTube 2 ай бұрын
@@mikeyearly thanks...according to your experience, do you think that actually needs 400W? could 250W be enough? Because 250W motors are very easy to find (ebike, wheelchair ecc), while 400W are very expensive
@mikeyearly
@mikeyearly 2 ай бұрын
@TheAngorTube sure, but depends what torque they provide which will affect your lever arm length

@@mikeyearly fine...using a motion rig, my idea is to feel above all the motions of the car. In example, at time about 0:10, you see the car in the sim have a lot of "shake", but the rig is almost still...obviusly because the gforce are almost at zero. Is it possible to program the software to have those "little" but fast movements of the car...essentially they are the heave. I want to feel the road before the gforce. From what I see on the web, all the motion sim are based on the gforce.

Almost every simracing game provides a thing called telemetry. That's a long ass list of parameters like car position on the map in x,y,z, roll, pitch, speed, throttle, brake, handbrake, wheel position, etc. These metrics are getting captured once in a short period of time (like 1-5ms or less) and sent to a customer software like "Simtools". You can even write your own by enabling that option and reading the incoming telemetry as a UDP packets

It definitely feels different having the true heave over 'fake' heave, more realistic feeling of suspension travel. 2DOF is good enough for some road detail though. The other advantage is the pivot point is raised, now located around the hips of the driver
