When I have emotionally been at the mercy of my brain chemistry , I get angry when my intelligence is questioned especially by people I know do not know my body and self better than me.

I have never been in a mental facility with women who do violence, they are crying nonstop. In a corner, in a fetal position. Not my experience.

Even though the accused were innocent of false accusation of rape. Majority, without proper instigation, there verdict were to jail the accused. This aspect we have to be very carefull. She mentioned the crime ocurs in the morning, this could not be proven, she said in the evening. The compliant were interrogate, she paused and say, arm, arm on a lengthy period of time.

I have been looking for a talk like this where Maria isn't doing a comedy routine. I absolutely adore her and love her comedy, but I also wanted to hear her speak in a more "real" fashion.

Professor Saks and Miss Wang, there are no words to describe my happiness in seeing your lectures and hearing your words. I read The Center Cannot Hold, and I will read tomorrow on 10/29/2023 the book all schizophrenia. Knowing that there are people like me is a wonderful thing, I know that it may seem common in your country for a person on the schizophrenia spectrum to overcome the disease. But I live in a country where people like us suffer on the streets, where medicines can be in short supply, including mine. I have never been able to identify with my peers in my entire life, not even after being diagnosed with this disease. I considered myself an exceptional case and was not aware of my potential. Now, as a teacher, I know that I am capable of achieving all my dreams, no matter the difficulties. I fought against this disease, and before against myself. Right now I'm at the college I dreamed of so much. Even though I love this time in my life, I want to one day follow in your footsteps and be able to contribute to society while developing myself. For your contributions, and for bringing relief to my young heart, I deeply thank you. And I wish you the greatest joy that life can grant you.

I love seeing all the other commenters here appreciate Maria. Been watching too much comedy/stand up since before the two comedy channels combined. She s like a female Robin Williams. She’s brilliant. Nice to see that others know it too.

The first time I saw her perform, I thought: this is not funny, she is really in pain. Then, of course, I realized that is what makes her such an honest, powerful performer. So now I can laugh too: we're all on a tiny speck of dust flying out into infinity darkness, so, you might as well laugh sometimes. :)

I just love her courage so much. Her use of voices would seem inspired to some degree by Jonathan Winters and Robin Williams, and yet it goes so much deeper into observational humor, human frailty, and I guess deeper character development. The tremor in herb hands may be hard for me to see because, I don’t know…maybe because we all get old, and we’re about the same age. But I digress. Love to you Maria ❤

She shows us what it is truly to struggle with a Mental Disorder. The Highs, The extreme Lows, the dull mind numbing and crushing "Living within your own head" and yet keep pushing on. I have GAD and Panic Disorder which is not fun. 64 ambulance rides in 2yrs because I thought I was dying. The cycle comes with in and outs of OCD and manic with agoraphobia. It is a living hell but with friends and learning and Cognitive Behavior Therapy it helps but the struggles with Alcoholism. She is right in saying we are very smart and have success and can be the smartest person that can endure alot of stress that others cannot. I am a software project manager that has had great years and aweful years. Bankruptcy too not wanting out of bed to dreams that seem better then your waking life. I still go through this at the age of 52 and haven't worked since Covid Pandemic and now ready to go back but explaining all the time off in a business world is a terrible experience. I have my masters and also at one point lived out of my car or peoples couches. I salute her in her struggle and endeavors as it is a live time journey with mental illnesses. Thank you all that want to learn about, understand, accept us and give us a chance to work again.

Good book. Forget correct therapy “lingo.” “No self, no suffering” or “clear mind, don’t know” are better. Stigma campaigns needed except when distracting from “we’re still in the dark ages” P-doc talks ab’t current treatments. I’m not talking ab’t magic Fox News CBD gummy “cures.” Or Harry Potter “Bubba Hotep” pills/ treatments.
