When Law Schools evaluate the GRE, is the verbal section the most important? Business Schools treat the Quant as the most important section on the test though they've put some importance on the verbal. I took both exams and i scored significantly lower on the LSAT . I scored a 99th percentile on the GRE and this was due to the material being familiar to me, especially the Quant. The text completion and sentence equivalent questions were a little foreign but with two months of practice, they were not that bad. The LSAT requires a different way of thinking thats not easy to do and requires significant time to develop. Also i took my GRE at 1 in the morning.
@DreaJackee
@DreaJackee 11 ай бұрын
I can’t speak to this with much confidence because I am not employed by admissions but I would assume the verbal and writing scores are most important. I’ve done little to no math at all during law school, but my understanding is that schools still reserve that “all your scores are significant.” I that said (from most recent data on their ABA reports), the overall quant. Scores tend to be overall much lower than the average writing and verbal scores- so I think you’re right to that end. Also, if your LSAT scores are still valid, they will ask you to send both your GRE and LSAT scores.

Hi!! what was your target score when you were studying for the law school?
@DreaJackee
@DreaJackee Жыл бұрын
Hello! So I want to be careful about talking about test scores (and “target scores” generally) because (1) I don’t want anyone who comes to my channel to see what I aimed for and feel discouraged or assign my or their value to a superficial standardized metric, (2) test score numbers climb every year, so figures get outdated pretty quickly, and (3) numbers are just numbers- any combination of factors can lead to an acceptance or rejection. With all those caveats, in lieu, I’ll tell you my target percentiles: I wanted at least 80th in writing and reading comprehension, and 50th in math. I was able to exceed those and earn scholarship money. Hope that helps!

Your videos are helpful! I’m considering applying to a part time JD or joint degree program once I finish undergrad. I already work full time as a paralegal so I know I want to continue working in the legal field. How often do cold calls occur in evening classes? This is honestly the one reason why I’m a little hesitant on applying😶
@DreaJackee
@DreaJackee Жыл бұрын
Great question: most “cold” calls are on a schedule so you’ll know what days you’re “on call.” Every professor is different though! So some still do old school calling on anyone. I’ve had a classmate who tracked the cold call order for a professor and distributed it to us for our preparation before which was helpful. Don’t let the threat of cold calls keep you out of law school! Not only are they fine when you don’t know the answer, but no one remembers whether you got it “right” and it’s usually not part of your grade.

I feel your pain. Going into 2LE. I don't know about you, but evening students have a passion and drive that's uncanny. We have so many non-trad, 1st gen, 2nd career types. At my school, there's a huge unity. I'd do anything for my mates. We share notes, outlines, etc as if we're not competing for the same grades.

How many hours did you typically study/read/do school-related activity on the weekends? I am trying to conceptualize a schedule as I will be attending evening classes Tuesday - Thursday.
@DreaJackee
@DreaJackee Жыл бұрын
Hi Christopher! Thank you for watching! This is a great question: My weekends during the school year are almost purely law school geared. I have class Monday through Thursday, and dedicate my Saturday 2p-midnight, and Sunday 2p-midnight to studying. I take breaks in there (usually an hour for food, and time to cook/clean/run errands), but honestly during crunch time or exams things can get pretty hectic and my study time almost always spills into weekdays. A general rule of thumb is that I spend at least the number of hours I have in credit hours, on studying/work outside of class. So if I take 12 credits, I can expect to spend at least 12 hours (minimum) on studying. But this is me talking after three years of getting used to law school. During my first year, it was probably more like 24-36 hours per week. There were certainly days when I would read for 12 hours combined-- and while I do not in retrospect feel this was the best use of my time, it's unfortunately not an exaggeration. Getting used to law school takes time, and it was tough for me in the beginning to gauge what was important and what wasn't. I think these are growing pains experienced by many law students. It is part of the process!

Do you think that part time programs are easier to get into? Relating to a school's full time counterpart. Using Georgetown as an example.
@DreaJackee
@DreaJackee Жыл бұрын
This is a great question! Also thank you for watching and asking. The only reason I'll say no (they are not easier) is because (1) evening programs tend to have fewer seats (most class sizes at GULC for example are 45-60 people), and (2) the applicants are usually expected to come in with substantive work experience, so the soft requirements tend to be higher-stake. In short: if applying GULC is a reach for full-time attendance, it's also probably a reach for the evening program. On my first point: I'm not sure the school publishes how many of their 10k+ applications are specifically for the evening program, but say it's something modest like 700-1000. While they may accept 150 and only expect something like 30% of those accepted to actually attend, those odds aren't necessarily more favorable. People who apply for the evening program tend to be very intentional, and I feel their acceptances are intentional as well. On my second: I have classmates from some pretty impressive backgrounds. Many us are well into government careers, some have PhDs, others are professors themselves (on the main campus), writers for major newspapers, news anchors...etc...the list goes on. These are the kinds of students who are what I would consider to be rockstars, and I think the admissions office tends to specifically seek out candidates who have that background and can handle the balance. Evening students only take one class less (per semester) than day students to graduate on time, so I would not consider it a great side-door strategy.

So is it one class per week? Each day is a different class?
@DreaJackee
@DreaJackee Жыл бұрын
It depends on how many credits you take but I think the minimum is 7/8 credits which which usually equates to about 3 classes per week. The catch is, you can't graduate in 4 years only taking 7/8 credits per semester (unless you also take summer classes). To graduate on time, most students need to take 11/12 credits per semester (which can fluctuate down if summer classes are taken) which equates to 4-5 classes per week. For context, day/full-time students only take one more class than evening students. Core requirement classes usually meet about 2 times a week, and electives are once a week. For example, here's a 9-credit schedule from my first year: Torts: 4 credits; Con Law: 3 Credits; Legal Writing: 2 credits Monday: Torts 5:45-7:45, Legal writing 8-10p Tuesday: Constitutional law* 5:30-7p Wednesday: Torts 5:45-7:45 Thursday: Constitutional law* 5:30-7p *Occasional asynchronous lecture for Con Law

So then would you say a hack would be to go to a school with a small 1L class ?
@DreaJackee
@DreaJackee Жыл бұрын
Even with a smaller 1L class, first-year law school courses are usually pretty big and curved heavily by design. I don't think there is a hack here unfortunately. The only different approach I can think of is spreading out first-year courses for later in your law school journey? That way you take them with more experience under your belt and approach them more effectively. But the down side to doing that is (1) they'll still be curved heavily, and (2) the class will involve a lot of work and studying late in your law school trajectory.
