The two are not a fair comparison. 16 vs 20 . Compare the new G line to zizzo
@bromptoning13 күн бұрын
Sure! The Brompton G Line blows the Zizzo away. The G Line has a longer wheelbase, smoother internal gearing system, hydraulic disc brakes, and a much smaller and tighter fold. The quality of the G Line's parts and components is so much higher than the Zizzo's. No way the Zizzo could handle a pump track like this... kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip_dcmqDrMhsn7s

Curious. Some questions, if I may. 1. What model (line) are your Bromptons? 2. Assuming you flew there, does it count as carry-on or checked-in luggage (I'm also assuming you need some kind of bag/cover when you do take it)?
@bromptoning13 күн бұрын
Hi there! I can answer those questions... 1. Our Bromptons are what's now called the C Line model, but we got them sooooo long ago (2013) that back then they were called S6R (straight handlebars + 6-speeds + rack). 2. The Brompton is not quite small enough to be a carry-on, so we always check them as regular luggage. We wrote a whole blog post about how we packed and flew our Bromptons to Mexico! bromptoning.com/traveling-adventures/packing-the-bromptons-for-mexico/ Hope that satisfies your curiosity!

Brompton is overpriced and overhyped because it is made in the UK, not because it has superior components or reliability. Its design is largelly the same from 70's - would you buy a Toyota of 1970s design in 2024 for the price of todays new car? That's why I bought Dahon for my daily commute - it simply makes more financial sense, + my Dahon is just as reliable as any piece of metal and rubber can be. If Brompton and Dahon cost the same, i would consider Brompton if it rides just as well as Dahon, but honestly i am so happy with Dahon i cant see myself switching
@Bruin4Life01Ай бұрын
I own a Brompton M6R Explore as well as 3 Dahons (Mariner D8 and D7 and a Vitesse D7). Both types of folding bikes are great, but when I travel to Asia I'll be taking my Brompton with its cover because apparently nobody objects to the Brompton due to its small, compact size, and with the cover on, you do not run the risk of soiling other passengers' clothing on trains and buses, which is apparently a concern of theirs.

G line is not a Brompton. Its only a very expensive Tern
@bromptoningАй бұрын
If it folds like a Brompton, it's a Brompton! I have a Tern as well, and though it has the same 20" tires as the G Line, the Tern's fold is HUGE and the Tern doesn't even roll while folded. Yes, the G Line folded is bigger than the Brompton C Line folded, but no matter the size, the Brompton folds so much better than a Tern.
@Beery1962Ай бұрын
I own a Zizzo, and one of the advantages of it is the weight. It's aluminum, so although it's chunky, it weighs less than 30 lbs. The lower end Bromptons are steel, so they're heavier. But the big drawback of the Zizzo is the folding - everything on it is a hassle and nothing in the folding process works right unless you adjust everything just right.
@bromptoningАй бұрын
Accurate! Except the weight of a steel Brompton is only 24lbs. Yep, it's pretty light.

Thanks! We didn't find the G Line faster than our Bromptons, but note that we both have 54t chainrings and 6-speeds on them, so we're used to going faster than standard Brompton bicycles. Great review! I have a Brompton...I'm just under 5'5 but worried that the regular will be too big...or will the extra length help keep the legs dry more? I can see you tried the regular but preferred the short, why is that, it just felt more comfortable? Did you try riding with the regular?
@bromptoning2 ай бұрын
Good question! For me (I'm 5'4"), the regular seemed to come too far past my hands. The cape should cover your hands, but you want your hands to be where the loops are. The short length still completely covers my legs when I'm cycling.

Checking the Bromptons in as luggage is a little different every time. Sometimes, no one bats an eye, they just check us in and away the bike goes. Often then direct us to the Fragile/Oversized conveyer belt (no extra fee), but not always. This time we were sent to Oversized, but the people working there made us unpack the Bromptons and show us what they were. So that was a first! But the bikes made it to New York without issue. 👍

The lanes are used. The City of Toronto has data on the thousands of cyclists who bike on Bloor Street. Ford is spreading lies to pander to drivers who want to blame someone else for the traffic. But cars ARE traffic. The only way to improve traffic is to have less cars on the road, and the only way to have less cars on the road is to give people other modes of transportation.
@leflopjames56283 ай бұрын
@bromptoning Wrong. Removing lanes for vehicles and designating them for bicycles is literally making gridlock worse in the city. My community has petitioned heavily for the removal of bike lanes and Doug Ford has listened. I have voted Liberal my whole life and I'm now switching to the PC Party. Cyclists have become brash, pompous, and ignorant. You were given an inch and you all lied your way to seizing a mile. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Doug will get another majority and you will lose EVERYTHING.

@bromptoning You are definitely WRONG. Cycling lanes are virtually unused. Taking lanes from drivers and putting in severely underused bike lanes is a disgrace. SHAME ON YOU. Bloor West and Etobicoke has been terrorized by seldom used bike lanes causing vehicular gridlock. Seniors and the disabled can't access High Park. Bloor Street businesses have lost all drive up/park customers. I drive that route everyday and I DO NOT SEE CYCLISTS IN THE BIKE LANE.
