I like watching videos from the Philippines. Watching from Long Beach, California. I’ve been to Baguio in my younger years in 20’s. It’s always too many people roaming around the city. I’m sure it’s gonna be more new places to see. Very cheap burger and shawarma. Fruits and vegetables are also cheaper there because Baguio is one the producers in the Philippines.

@Kevin-Travels Haha maybe nature whispered it to you. We have a festival called Ibagiw cekebrating the culture of the indigenous people. Baguio got its name during the American occupation and they couldn't pronounce bagiw properly so it became Baguio. 😊

There are many people because Baguio is the Summer Capital of the Philippines at the same time the educational center of the north. It also explains the cheap prices of burgers and budget meals if you go to the right places. It's also a good thing you went to one of the local store areas for souvenirs.

Baguio used to have a US military R&R base in Camp John Hay. Many streets/places have English names in Baguio, compared to other cities in the Philippines. That is why there's such a heavy western influence in that area, including burgers. There are also several major universities in Baguio which adds to the need for affordable food options.

Fun fact, Daniel Burnham was the urban planner for Baguio and the unfinished center of Manila back when we're still a US Commonwealth. If I'm not mistaken, he also designed Chicago or some parts of it. If you've been to Manila in Rizal Park, you'll see neo-classical buildings (same architectural style as the White House). the intention is to create an administrative center but they weren't able to finish it due to the war and the eventual independence of the philippines from The United States. Now, both cities are suffering from lack of urban planning. lol. Btw, you should've visited Sagada while you were in Baguio. That place is immaculate.

I used to be a pony boy in wright park as a teenager back in the late 90s to early 2000s. The prices back then was 50 for 30 mins and 100 for an hour. There are trails you can go to that’s got a lot of beautiful views but it’s between 1.5 hrs to 3 hrs. I loved going to those trails back then cause not a lot of people wants to do those trails so it’s special for us when we go.

Those are saba variety of banana. It’s not eaten raw typically. It is the variety that we cook. We fry, boil or caramelize it and you’re right, it’s the one in turon. You cannot use the table variety for cooking.

The Botanical Garden has been developed as Tourist Destination so they make it an entrance fee for you to be able to come inside. Before the early days in early 2000s. you can go freely and walk around.

Wow…this video is fascinating 💙 Haven’t been back since 1994. You bought the bananas (saba in Tagalog). I prefer to eat it cooked like in turon or banana cue. The expensive banana is lakatan and imo tastes better and sweeter. The banana girl is so sweet. She asked you if you wanted her to peel it for you. She pointed also the piece of banana on your face 🩷 Btw, after the 2 months visa extension you will have to get an ACR and it’s good for one year. I don’t remember how much it cost me? re: pomelo, a lot of pomelo in Northern Luzon is sour or bitter so when it's somewhat tasteless and a bit sweet then they say it's sweet but they won't hold a candle to pomelos from Mindanao which are really sweet

Kevin, You need to cook those bananas you bought since it might not get digested easily when eaten raw. Add some brown sugar if you fry it. Or you can simply steam or boil it.
