@@LukeDamant haha not at all, try biting into it like an apple (with the skin). Usually less ripened ones (appearing greenish and a bit hard in texture) are the best one. Seeds are present in the middle which can just be thrown away. There's even a seedless variety

Hey Luke, the fruit you tasted was unripened guava. You can eat it with or without the skin and I personally don't like to eat the seeds as well. Next time you find a yellow Guava, try that. It's much sweeter than the green one.

Luke the fruit you tasted and didnt like is called "Guava" it is very good for stomach and in pakistan people usually eat this in Summer But its better to eat this without Masala as i never recommend Masala they put on this which is kind of weird to be honest

Luke the fruit you tried on the street in Lahore while waiting for your shave is guava. Its a delicious fruit if you eat it without seeds and masala. You must have guava juice in Australia too. The one you tried wasn’t ripe.
