I had severe juvenile depression as a child, and one thing I did was chew my nails. I didn't have the tacky-looking fake nails. I just chewed my natural nails until they bled. Thanks to having done that for many years, I now have sliding wear patterns on my incisal edges and marked tooth sensitivity because I have worn through to the dentin. This is No Fun at All, so even if you don't have tacky fake nails, you should still consider some counselling and behaviour mod if you chew your nails obsessively the way I did.

I had a palette expander as a teenager, along with braces, followed by jaw surgery, and retainers. Ever since the palette expander, I've been extra susceptible to brain freeze, so that's annoying. But I also found that my bottom retainer was causing my back teeth to ache constantly, even after consistent wear for multiple years, so I chose to stop wearing it. My bottom front teeth, of course, have rotated sideways some. I get the feeling the crowding is just too bad still. I've had my wisdom teeth removed too (they were completely sideways and buried) and still have pretty bad crowding on the lower teeth. I will say, I used to get a TON more cavities and broken fillings before I had jaw surgery. Turns out, it's not good to only use a couple molars in the back for everything and none of your other teeth.

The nail thing is also super bad for your nails. A lot of the time it is rooted in people wanting acrylics but being lazy about taking care of them. After about 2-4 weeks (depending on how fast your nails grow and how hard you are on your hands) they start looking a bit rough, but people want to avoid having to go pay more to get them filled (maintained) for as long as possible, but the longer you wait the more likely one or more is to get to the point where you are tempted to pop it off. Problem is that often causes a fair amount of damage to your nail and nail bed. Not uncommon to see horrible infections develop that can have permanent and dire consequences. So, think carefully about if you are willing to do the maintenance before sitting down for a full set. Be honest about the time and money it will take. Do you have the $40+ and a spare hour or two every 2-4 weeks to keep them in great shape? When you decide you’re done with them, will you take the time and spend the money to have them ground down and soaked off safely? If not, then they aren’t for you.

17:32 I honestly believe that due to bad orthodontic treatment when i was a kid, they made my jaw defect worse. I couldn't fully close my jaws/mouth because of these retainers, now i developed additionally a long face syndrome, that wasn't even an issue before the treatment... later, i was taken to a different orthodontist where they extracted my healthy tooth and moved and tilted my upper teeth to match my underdeveloped jaw (it was growing down because i couldn't close my mouth for several years). I had speech issues because of this, and recently joint issues. Now I'm on my journey to undo/decompensate what they did to me and finally get a surgery... The pain due to joint issues made me vomit. Luckily, I got an occlusal splint, and it helps, but that's not a long-term solution. Honestly, i wish they left me alone when i was a kid, i might have less issues than i have now, and the journey to get the surgery would be much easier.

The last part which is related to mewing or orthotropics is so interesting to me because I did see my peers with palatal expanders but it was rare like only 1 out of 10 of us would have it. I can confirm myself and others did end up with all those problems later on and made me feel like i just had a bad orthodontist that didn’t think i needed the expander. I’m now on the verge jaw surgery :/ It started as being unable to find someone to recreate my retainer, to tmj- not being to find anyone to make a night guard so i just got OTC to unfortunately seeing x-rays that showed I’m way too late for non invasive procedures. So I wonder why it’s so rare in the orthodontist world to use them (at least back then it was) because i do see how beneficial it was. Also the kids i knew who had the expanders wore their braces way longer than most so that could be why. Tldr! I hope you can talk about this mewing orthotropic thing.. devices and procedures related to it. The first part about braces stains made me sad bc no amount of brushing has ever got rid of them and they’re way more visible as i got older😭 All of this is starting to really make me regret the orthodontist I had..

And I generally have a pretty high pain threshold, so I don’t think I was being overly dramatic about it

That is so deeply utterly terrifying to me. I'd rather see extreme gore and death videos split-screened with 2girls1cup than a second more of those teeth moving. Also, you claim that the brown staining on the back of one photos teeth is due to nicotine reacting with saliva and causing staining. If that were true, then people who vape with clear liquid or nicotine salts would see the same discoloration. They do not. The stains from smoking are, like with most negative effects from smoking, caused by the tar in cigarette smoke, not the nicotine.

Please read ❤thx So one day I went to the dentist, they recommended me to an orthodontists.. 🦷 we went a week later and we did scans and whatever. She then told me I needed braces, an expander, pallet retainer, and lastly a teeth retainer.. that was a lot of information at one time for me, but I was kinda excited! 😆 in my school it was pretty cool to have braces. 😬 she then told me that I was getting braces and a expander the next month, I had nervous and good thoughts about it. And month came and I got braces and an expander, the expander WAS THE WORST! Because everything got stuck in it and we had too twist it for 20 days or so, that hurt.. when I got my expander off it was worse.. my gums were bloody and hurt lots. My roof of my mouth felt weird and I got to choose my retainer color, I picked blue 🎉 my braces stayed and it gives me cold sours ALL THE TIME.. in my mouth, so yeah that’s my travel so far, let me know things about your experiences! ❤❤

The main reason why purple toothpaste became a big deal is because purple cancels out the yellow. If you do art or painting, you will know that yellow and purple are on the opposite ends of the color wheel. To avoid overcrowding of teeth, give your children tougher food and treats, like a beef jerky consistancy, maybe even dried fruit, for you veggie lovers out there. Also, promote good mouth posture... yes, its a real thing. Proper mouth posture is mouth closed and tongue pressed firmly against the roof of your mouth. Those 2 things are the closest things you can do to "guarantee" straight teeth, proper chin instead of recessed, and a beautiful smile. Its not sure fire 100%, but those two thing will get you and/or your children the best looking teeth and jaw structure that you could have naturally, without medical or orthodontic intervention.

I have a question what foods can you eat with a habit stopper on your expander?

So you mean to tell me, her prosthetic jaw was looking how Kanye's jaw was looking before the "Through The Wire"? 😮😵😩😅😅😅

I can speak to stopping chewing nails/finger skin I have dermatillomania, self soothing behavior ever since I was given a thumb guard as a kid and had to find a new thing to do. I would chew my fingerskin I mean all over the tips of my fingers, around the nail, and the nails. I now have craze lines, and hairline cracks on my front teeth The ONLY thing that helped my dermatillomania was proper medication for my mental illness. There, I said it. Nothing else did it and if I change meds, get in a bad state, I can slip up but I have zero desire to do it being properly medicated and treated for my mental health. I hope no one else needs an atypical antipsychotic, mood stabilizer, and antidepressant I would wish needing these on anyone or insinuate all nail biters do. But I have Bipolar disorder and this is my experience
