Hi Karl, is it possible to export an ALE of only selected clips? Premiere always exports all the clips of the project in the ALE file, I can't find a way...

Try using File-Export-selection as Premiere Project. This command will make a simplified new project with just your selected items. Then, export the AAF from there.

@@KarlSoule Thank you Karl. I was not aware of the existence of this command. I had thought of Productions as a method to export a partial ALE. By the way, speaking of Productions, someone should tell Adobe that it is a very unfortunate name, all of us who work in the industry know that it is a production, and calling it the same only adds confusion. thank you very much, karl, for this great explanation! unfortunately I got the issue that when updating the metadata for a specific clip, the ASC_SOP values update in the project/metadata panel but NOT in the CDL-SourceClipEffect... Any advice?

Sadly, Premiere only reads this metadata one time, on ALE import. It won’t automatically update the CDL source clip effect. You’ll need to update the values manually.

Hi Karl, great video! Can you also put an ALE on synced dailies? I have a proxy workflow where audio and video are synced up in Resolve. Is there a way to link those new proxy files to the ALE to see meta data inside premiere?

This is possible. Export ALE from synced timeline in Resolve

Hi Dustin! Usually, the ALE is generated by the software used to generate the mezzanine editing files. This is usually done by the Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) as they copy the camera cards and transcode the files. Sometimes a colorist does it when baking in some simple color that looks way better than the flat log footage in camera. Editorial gets these files, and the ALE file.
