Christine Hardman and her mother always used their front room unlike the other residents - they were used to living in a big posher house before they had to move to Coronation Street if i remember correctly - its funny the details that prick your interest

What's interesting to note is whilst Frank Barlow accuses his son of being a class snob, he's guilty of doing the same thing as well. His attitude towards university and higher learning and the middle class shows him to be both ignorant and insulting whilst playing the "working class" victim card too......

I agree. It is dreadful how he continually criticizes Ken instead of being proud of him. Mr. Barlow in fact practises invert snobbery. This is when a so-called working class person makes another person's life hell because in their opinion that other person is "posher" or a class above themselves. I should know because at my secondary school I became a victim of this sort of snobbery because I did not swear like the others did and was taught to speak correctly. In no way did I reject or judge the other girls' speech or behaviour and wished to be friends with them, but they made my life hell. Unfortunately too little is spoken over this form of snobbery
@Lytton333
@Lytton333 2 жыл бұрын
@@franceskronenwett3539 Inverted snobbery is now cleverly appropriated as a weapon by the liberalised progressivist upper middle classes in order to obfuscate their disguised class snobbery whilst they preach universal equality, or, in other words, they practise a legerdemain to avoid being detected as frauds. Quality is elitist by definition, so they support the idea that baseness is equality, that vulgarity is the ultimate equalizer, but all the time they seek to consolidate their class autonomy and retain a semblance of qualitative culture and living. However, technology and globalism is lowering quality standards in the rush for common denomination and uniformity, so everyone is loosing. The upper classes have become just as vulgarised as everyone else, they just spend more money achieving it.

Didn’t think Florrie could be ‘old enough to be Harry’s mother’ as Ena put it, so I checked her profile and she was born in 1922, making her 39 in 1961-not as old as Ena seems to think! ( in fact, Harry was born in 1921, so he’s a year OLDER than Florrie!)

Back in the day when I saw this, the quality of the picture was worse being on the old cathode tube & on 400+lines, mid 60s it was about 625 lines which didn't change until the move over to LCD & et al. 400+ lines we we're perfectly happy & add some ghosting too.. (with a magnifying glass you could count them).

Working class say dinner. Middle class say lunch. I’ve always wondered what the difference is between tea, dinner, supper, lunch etc. “Albert’s not clinging to Coronation Street; he’s clinging to his independence.” That’s cool. “Can’t even cheer myself up with Elvis. “It costs nothing to be pleasant”. I totally agree. On my old street, we kept ourselves to ourselves, she said after gossiping about Ena and Martha. Ena Sharples (to Florrie Lindley): “If you can’t say summat good, say nowt!” That coming from the most insulting lady (if you can call her that) of the street. Florrie is a hypocrite. It will be interesting to see the stoushes between Ena and Florrie. Florrie is much to old for Harry. My bet is still on a hook up with Esther but we’ll see…..

Florries objection to the street is its all too easy to get talked about. On the other hand, if one person falls into difficulties ( like at Christmas, when Lucille wanted to be at home but Harry had to work) anyone who can help, like Esther, does! As she also came through for Christine when May died. The community spirit's there!

@woohooboy
@woohooboy 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, she died just before the series began and Harry put her into Foster Care because as a single father he felt he couldn't cope on his own raising her. This happened back in those days when widowed men who had lost their wives either couldn't look after their children or were pressured into sending their kids into care.....
