My mum was only 10 when this was on so I wasn't around yet, but I love these episodes, I haven't watched the black and white ones so much thinking they were a bit dated but they are not, they are pure quality

Things seem a bit cold between Harry and Concepta. Cliff Richard and Billy Fury - flavour of the month. It was nice of Ena to offer the safety pin. I’m glad they’re friends again. I really enjoyed this episode. My favourite character at the moment

Sorry - got that wrong. The actor was apparently 62, but he was playing someone born in 1919. There must have been a shortage of actors then, or the producers weren’t too fussed about the ages.

I've noticed synchronisation problems in a few episodes. Probsbly sonething to do how they were transferred. It's more noticeablecwith Ena because of how fast she talks.

Thinking about Elsie being asked for an divorce, I remember my Grandma telling me, she got refused a divorce, I presume by the courts and it must of been in the sixties, and her husband was violent and constantly committing adultery, it wouldn't be easy to get an divorce back then, or so I thought 🤔

So Albert's daughter Beattie is supposed to be 27 here. The actress playing her was 49. A bit of miscating I think.
@Lucy08095 жыл бұрын
themistermillson never really saw much of her after either!

Really! I was putting her around 45 in my head. 27 never.
@iangraham99884 жыл бұрын
themistermillson I think her birthdate was given in one of the novelizations but those tended to play fast and loose with the continuity . I think in one of them they had Blanche Hunt going out with Dave Smith during the war even though official continuity wise, she would been 10 yrs old
@alexanderjones95724 жыл бұрын

Elsie and Arnold's version of their marriage is different to Daran Little's later backstory. Also they probably should have got a younger actor to play Arnold.
@CrookedIproductions5 жыл бұрын
Just looked. The character of Arnold Tanner was born in 1919, per the Coronation Street Wikipedia. The actor who played him, Frank Crawshaw, was born in 1899! He was 20 years older than the character he played. Why they got a 61-year-old actor to play a 41-year-old character is beyond me.
@francofan1005 жыл бұрын
The birthdate probably wasn't set in stone back then. The wiki also says Elsie warned Arnold away with a shotgun, whereas here it's clear he left her and she was upset about it.
@robertdoherty20015 жыл бұрын
That’s nothing-get a load of Beatty! How old’s Albert-115?
@francofan1005 жыл бұрын
That looked even worse when the character (and actress) returned in 1984 for Albert's death storyline. She looked 92!
@CrookedIproductions5 жыл бұрын
@@francofan100 The same Coronation Street Wikipedia said that Beattie was born in 1933 -- so here she would have been 28. Gabrielle Daye, who played Beattie, was born in 1911 (so she was 50 here)! Albert was born in 1895, so here Albert's supposed to be in his mid-60s. Jack Howarth was born in 1896, so they were close with the casting there.
@themistermillson5 жыл бұрын
Arnold tanner is supposed to be 41 here but the actor playing him is 61.

Well when there’s Ken Barlow ( who looks similar at twenty to in 2020 when he’s 80) they can get away with having a 61 year old playing a 41 year old!

How large was Weatherford supposed to be in 1961? Because everybody acts like Beattie lives on the other side of Manchester when she probably lived in the same neighborhood where Audrey lives now.
