Someone I know got a bit nervous and let their speed slip on the test, but that wasn't even the worst part. A cop got them on the radar and they got suspended. It was the first time I heard of a learner getting penalised for speeding.

5:32 That was funny haha.. Examiner: "Do a 3 point turn" / You: "Nah, too complicated, lets just do left turns around the block".. Thanks for the great content, looking forward to that mock test video. Maybe it could be helpful if someone else drives (ideally one of your students) and you do the examiner role, showing when the driver fails and why

It sure is useful to know the fail items. I did my test back in 2010, and I did pass on the first attempt (did not keep the score sheet to know my exact score, I just put it on a table at home and it was probably thrown out as paper junk a week after). I knew the rules pretty well (well enough to pass). But I probably could have been even sharper on the test if I had read through and understood the score sheet completely before I attempted the test. I knew the general rules around not crossing unbroken lines, and not blocking intersections etc. It's good to see how they relate to fail items on the score sheet. When I attempted the test, I knew a bit about the score sheet (since the handbook is broken up into categories like 'speed management', 'control', 'hazards', etc) but I did not know about the actual mechanics of the score sheet, how it is filled out. Also, I thought everyone had to a reverse park. I was only made to a do a kerbside stop (on a steep slope, so it required a hillstart) and a three point turn. I did not realise that the examiner only chose one of three point turn or reverse park. I can even remember back to my test. At the start of the test, there was a main intersection with two sets of lights. I remember crossing the first, and being worried about being stuck blocking the intersection on the second light. I also picked my test time to be around 2.30 - 3.30pm (since that was the only time available) not realising that it would be peak time at end of school day, and in the test I had to drive past and cross a main road near a school while it was packed with parents picking up students. I realised why it was the only time available after I did the test lol. So many things I did that made my test harder than usual, but I still past on the first go!.
@random19911004
@random19911004 2 жыл бұрын
Also, whenever anyone claims they 'had bad luck' on a driving test, it is usually because they got a fail item, which means they broke a fundamental rule. Yes, it might have been a 'small error' to make in the moment and easy to do, but it was still against the fundamental road rules. It's not hard to follow foundational stuff like 'don't cross unbroken lines'. I remember the first time I read that in the rule book. It was burned into my brain from then on (I am a very detailed oriented person). Your channel also helps me makes sense of the tv show 'Driving Test' (even though its based in Northern Territory, the rules and testing procedures are fairly consistent). Wish they would make more seasons of Driving Test. They only made one, and then they just run it on repeat.

How far under the speed limit do you recommend going in general? I always find it difficult to stay at a consistent speed especially when there are varying terrains such as changing from a flat piece of road to uphill road. I guess in the end it just takes practise and knowing the area which you're driving in.
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sara I recommend for a test doing 5kms under the limit. Unless there is a hazard where you may need to slow more. Practice will help you get better at maintaining a constant speed.

@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 hi Jimmy. I have a question about minimum speed limit. Today I had a test at 3.45pm and rainy day. I tried to drive slow at around 40km/h because there has lots of school zones and shower rain. But once the test finished examiner said too slow and 13 of 25 speed is fail. So do you recommend what speed was better for my situation. I am very unhappy for it. Thank you.

@@sarnaisodnom7930 Hi Sarnai sorry to hear you didnt pass today. Yes the rain sucked today. I really need more information about which areas you were driving slow in. You generally for a test need to be within 20km of the speed limit. However there are exceptions ie hazards, you may be in residential etc. So if you were doing say 40km/h and it was 80km/h speed limit and there was no hazard then you will get a fail. Im also not sure what you mean by "13 of 25 speed is fail". If you can give me some more information i may be able to help you.

Hi, I have a question I was hoping could answser. When doing reverse parking, are you able to keep fixing your position (so going forward and back) until the car is parked properly or are you limited to only reversing in? Hope the question makes sense. Thank you
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sabsterina. You have to do it in a maximum of 6 directions. The first 4 no mark down , but if you use 5 and 6 you get a circle error. Direction 1 is when you originally reverse from the start position. Then you can go forward (2), then you can reverse again. (3) and then you can go forward (4) etc til 6. Each time you will need to do relevant checks and signals. I explain this in my reverse park vid.

Hi Jimbo. I’ll do my test this week. Question: do I need to always indicate left sign when exiting the roundabout? Even if it is a one lane roundabout? I’ll do my test at Bondi Junction. Many thanks! Ronald.
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ronald. Examiners only mark the dual lane ones. However I get better results with students if you indicate out of all of them because it makes it more of a habit. If you only indicate out of dual then it won't be programmed in as well and you may forget the dual ones and get a signal error. 3 signal errors and you are out.

Hi, I just have further questions about some fail items. F1: when u spill on to an unbroken line is an immediate fail e.g your turning right on a two way street and go over the line ? That’s an immediate fail ? F18: if the gap between the car is more than 3 seconds. Will they fail you ? And in terms of when it’s raining what’s the recommended gap ? F12: Exit signal on the roundabout when turning right or going straight. You signal for at least 3 seconds before you exit the roundabout ? . Then 5 seconds when leaving a kerb or exiting let’s say the test area. In regards to 3point turn, parallel parking and kerbside, how early do you have to signal ? Thank you in advance for the help. Veronica !!!
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Veronica Re F1 and crossing unbroken line. In alot of cases yet it is a fail for crossing unbroken line but there are a lot of exceptions. For example you can cross an edge line within 100m of turning. You can cross unbroken lines to pass a cyclists. You example turning right and cutting it too tight and driving over the unbroken centre line is often a fail. Re F18 the fail is given when you are less than 1 second from the car in front. If you are less than 3 but more than 1 you get a circle minor error. When raining you would get a circle if you are not keeping more than 3 seconds but more than 1. F12 Exit roundabout i prefer 2-3 flashes of the signal. With 3pt and parking on approach just signal around 5 seconds that will work.

I failed my first test on Zone 2 with a total of 3 head check🙂 2nd test i hit the curb when doing 3 point turn.😀 3rd test one of my right brake light was not working. The test got terminated😭 4th test i almost passed. I had total 3 observation error. The 3rd one occured inside the completely vacant car park while reversing a lit bit at the last moment . The testing officer told me i didn’t do 360 observation. Next one is on next wednesday on castle hill.

Hi Pradeep thank you for your comment. Yes the F19 observation is the most common fail. Bit of a shame about the F3 when you hit the gutter during the 3pt, remember to do it slowly so if you hit it you don't mount the kerb and trigger F3. Good luck with your next one. Watch my head check vid if you haven't already. :)

Hi Jimbo… Sorry I didn’t watch this video as I was worried about other things and I failed today’s test… And it is mainly about coasting.. so frustrated.. Can you do a video to show manual learners how not to have some bad habits? As my family does coasting a lot.. Also, how many fail we can get if hope to pass the test ? Tks
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Aimee sorry you didn't qualify today due to clutch coasting. Yes it's important not to automatically push the clutch in each time you brake. Just clutch in to change gears and then clutch back up. You can hold the clutch in when you are say less than 5km/h in speed and also just before stopping. Don't hold it in when you go around corners. I'll do a manual vid eventually one day.

Hi. In regards to lane changing, if I feel it is unsafe, or too busy to change lanes will I fail for not doing it? Or will I fail if they ask me to turn right and I miss the turn?

Hi Ellena if it's not safe to lane change then dont. Even if you miss your turn. It is not a fail. If it is safe to lane change but you are being over cautious then that will start to become a problem.

@thedrivingtestguynsw8424
@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sujan in the example that you describe, the truck and it's right signal should have got your notice as a potential hazard. At this point you back off and get ready should they pull out. If they do then you respond. It sounds like you didn't notice the truck and when it pulled out you didn't give way to it (even though the truck shouldnt have pulled out yet). Because you didn't give way to it you get F2. I recommend better hazard perception and response practice.

@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 basically, he asked me to do a kerb side stop behind another car. @@nhantranb.5172 Yes the 1-2 m is critical. Sometimes an examiner has to ask you to reverse park a car with a driveway because they cannot find a car that doesn't have a driveway. They always tell you to ignore the driveway.
