Fantastic interview! I had no idea Dean Devlin had buried the hatchet with SG-1, let alone was working with Jonathan Glassner on another show. To hear that they even discussed collaborating on a new Stargate series together blew me away!

I took my son to see Independence Day at the movie theater back when it opened - I still have the movie ticket stubs. Every time we got home from a movie, I’d put the ticket stubs in a little cedar box, and it filled up of some of the greatest movies, like Batman, TMNT, Jurassic Park, etc, etc.

I like how open and honest was Dean about the Stargate movie. I hope he can pitch his Stargate tv show idea to MGM next year as I wouldn't mind even a 5th series as long as it doesn't ignore the BW canon. Maybe Jonathan Glassner should invite them to talk together about future SG projects.

I would really like to read that Stargate Novel from Bill McKay. But unfortunately I can't find a store where I can buy the books new and not used. I don't like used books.

David I have to thank you and your team for the herculean job of putting this concept together, it truly is a Yeoman's work of love and passion I've rarely seen on this scale. You and your team are doing what Peter Jackson did for "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" movies by creating these interviews that should've been done years ago when the movie and TV show were fresh and new. This is without a doubt the best interview ever simply because it uncovered so much material very few people in the world knew and I want to thank you, your team, and Dean Devlin for taking the time to share it with us. The other interviews were very valuable also, it's just we knew so little about the movie and Dean was so passionate about the details, it's very much appreciated. I like your Oral History Project and wish I could offer any help other than moral support. You and your team have a huge parsing endeavor before you and I hope you get the quality people you need. I do understand what you're doing to answer the question you asked if any of us do because I've been working on a Microsoft Access database version that would include all the details that's already in countless websites. The difference being mine will be a real database complete with queries, reports, and forms cross-referencing the actors, characters, episodes, etc. It will include every detail mentioned like dates, places, weapons, vehicles, basically anything that's Stargate specific that can be used to cross-reference. I've hit a snag this year along with about 7 billion other people but I will keep it going. When Dean mentioned he considers the McKay books as canon then my head exploded because you can treat those books as Appendices like the Appendices in "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" books and have more material to work with, "to fill in the corners" as Bilbo Baggins would say.

So many great details in this interview. I had always been curious about those original plans for the Stargate sequels. And this should finally put to rest the (pretty ridiculous) rumor that Independence Day was originally adapted from the Stargate sequel script. The fact that Ra was originally a human that aliens had left in charge? It's crazy to think that everything we associate with the Goa'uld today was originally just a way to make Jaye Davidson seem more intimidating!

Great interview! New level of respect for Devlin and a greater understanding where he was coming from as many of my favorites came from him- Leverage, The Librarians, of course SG. PS it’s kind of cool the shimmer over his right shoulder on and off.

I love both the original Stargate movie and the TV franchise. I'm excited about the possible fourth series now that Amazon has bought MGM. I wonder if it's possible for the original to be folded into the TV continuity. -- Anyway, I rewatch the 1994 Stargate movie periodically, and I'm doing a rewatch of all of Stargate now.

David, I found these people on IMDb.com credited in the Stargate 1994 movie, one could be the lady he was talking about that helped with the script but couldn't remember her last name and wasn't sure about Linda being her first name. Of course I love the Stargate franchise, but for those interested in the pre and post production of the '94 movie, look up "Omar Zuhdi and Stargate" and "Egyptscape", admittedly I haven't read the book, but it's an interesting article read of what happened. I found out about this because I was fortunate enough to be Omar's high school student, not biased to him or SG, in the old case matter, but it definitely was interesting to hear about.

I fully understand that you don't have the time to set chapter marks in these videos, and I fully understand that you don't want to give any control to someone you don't know to be able to add these marks. However, would you be open to someone noting time marks and putting them into a comment, in which you can just copy/paste them into the video's description?
@DialtheGate

That seems reasonable to me. So long ss the time codes are added a day or two after KZbin has updated the video with the countdown trimmed off the beginning so they are correct. It sometimes takes a day or two for KZbin to process. It also depends on how many timecodes we are talking about.

I know that somewhere in this Interview Dean talks about the SG1 Children of the Gods part. Handling the Sha re nudity. And how it was reshoot by SyFy. And I personaly agree to a certain amount. I do have the Showtime version at home. I saw and do see her naked all the time when I watch the Movie. The thing I don't like about the Cut is, that we don't see the "melting" and Sha're screaming of pain and fear. Realizing that this snake is gonna do something bad to her. The Actress herself said she was fine with showing her breasts. Which would have been more then enough. Well back then I learned that girls get hair down there. I was like 5-10 when I first watched it. I remember it being in Free TV. And later my dad got the DVD and he knew I watched STar Wars/ Star Trek. And then Stargate. My dad was a special version of a Mailman. (germany has special classes something called "Beamter") So one of his Clients gave him the first and second season. And it ended up with me. I still don't knwo why the Reshoot was nessecary no one was really harmed with it. And the Situation for the Character did fit.

Kind of funny to discover that the whole SG1 mythology is based, on the excessive interpretation of a character by the actor and the last minute attempt to fix that in the movie.

Stargate is the Doctor Who of oh the universe. Gate has the perfect prop it can take you anywhere. So looking at the bigger picture SG1 team can be replaced because the the original team can be promote within the military structure and academic universe. It is the perfect advertising to for the military because of SG1's teamwork.

Tell me what you guys think… I'm having quite a hard time buying this account of the last minute post-filming change to Jaye Davidson's portrayal of Ra. Having specifically rewatched the film with this in mind I just found too much of the dialogue and the plot contradictory to the character simply being "an agent" of the alien. There is too much that doesn't add up or make sense for this to just be some audio and visual special effects added at the last minute during post-production! Perhaps more dialogue was changed than he let on, but there are issues with the plot as well. It also seems strange and somewhat unlikely that there's never been so much as a peep out of anyone in all these years about such a fundamental and major change to such an iconic and pivotal villain of this mega-successful franchise. I don't know; I'm certainly not suggesting that Devlin is making this up! But perhaps he is embellishing or exaggerating the story a bit, or it's possible his own memory has gradually morphed a bit over the years (current memory theory suggests that every time a memory is accessed it is slightly modified). It has been 26 years since the films release and probably nearly 27 since filming. It could also be some combination of factors that explain my perceived discrepancies. It is, of course, quite likely that this whole discontinuity is entirely of my own invention and that I am just misinterpreting what Dean intended to convey in some significant way. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Anything that may help me resolve this conundrum? Something I've missed? Flaws in my train of thought? Or does anybody else have similar reservations or skepticism about this change to Ra? I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas!
