Unfortunately 007 can't be black or a female or bisexual, transgender, gay, have a disability, be a teenager (unless it's James Bond Jr or Pre-MI6 James Bond) or divert from the character written in the books. Why? Because he's a beloved character as he is, because of how he is and he's a self-defined character written in books defined in a certain way because he is a representation of something (British Spies in WW2). I'm black, bisexual and have a disability so I'm not some hating bigot, I love diversity, but simply put we'd be changing the character for no reason whatsoever other than let's make him diverse. I love Bond how he is and so do many people and I think we should keep him how he is and there really is no other reason for us to change him.

Retro radio I don't remember a time when "white, male" as a definition of a character as defined by it's author and creator in books has now become irrelevant. I like writing and if I made a white, blonde spy, I'd want him to STAY a white, blonde spy. Don't go changing around my character because you want to. If I wanted him to be a different race I'd have made him a different race. So yes. It actually IS relevant. Considering he's defined as a white male in the books, that evidently is a factor otherwise he'd be defined as simply male, but Fleming too the time and thought to add "white" to it, which means it's evidently important.
