Lol yea it’s actually pretty ridiculous that they selected an actor 3 years older than Sean Connery to play Bond - but Roger Moore probably looked at least 10 years younger than his age - so most people never even realized that! Live And Let Die may not be Moore’s best, but I think it has a lot going for it - it has style, a smart script, and GREAT characters. Mr. Bigs organization was excellent - with each Henchman and soldier very much unique- which was very different than the interchangeable henchmen of Spectre. It also has an all time classic song, great music and plenty of memorable action sequences. Roger Moore didn’t quite hit his rhythm as Bond here just yet but he still brought his own effortless charm and elegance which, although very different from Connery, worked perfectly for his lighter version of the character. And that escape from Crocodile island was one of the coolest moments of the series!

For me Bond will always be Roger Moore because this was my first Bond movie . Moore was simply too suave and cool though it was his first outing. Moore's quips and oneliners seemed absolutely made to order. I was very surprised to learn later that Moore disliked gratuitous violence and tried many times to tone down the level. Guy Hamilton was a good choice to helm this spy adventure. This movie had interesting locations and wonderful stunts. Jane Seymour seemed to me the most beautiful woman. This movie still retains its freshness and fun.

Live and Let Die was the first Bond film I ever saw in theater. At the time ABC aired all the Connery Bonds as Sunday night movies periodically so I was pretty excited to watch this film when it released. I was 8, so Moore's break of convention didn't hurt in the least. I still view this movie as a great start to the next era of Bond, but you are quite right, Moore took a few movies to become the star Connery was. On the chase and stunt work side, this is perhaps one of my favorite movies of the time. That side view mirror dart cannon was so brilliant and Yaphet is the MVP in this. One of my favorite Bond films. Mostly because of: "Young" and in-shape Roger Moore, Jane Seymour, Geoffrey Holder as Baron Samedi and Clifton James as the Sheriff. I like the supernatural aspect of the film, how Solitaire predicts Bond is going to be her and Kananga's undoing, and how Samedi is killed but then at the very end we see he really is Baron Samedi and not just some henchman dressed as the Baron. Incidentally, I don't agree with the comment that Bond is sleazy in tricking Solitaire. The whole point is that she has already seen in the cards that she will be with Bond, and that matches up with how she feels. However, she holds back because she fears Kananga's wrath if she loses her powers. Bond, by "tricking" her is just helping her do what she wants to do. She figures out she was "tricked" pretty quickly and doesn't seem to mind. Also, saying that Jane Seymour looks too innocent is bad casting does not make too much sense, since I think the film-makers wanted someone who looked like they were sheltered. She has, after all, been a prisoner of Kananga since birth and no-one is allowed to "touch her" because the superstition is that she will lose her powers of prophecy. And, while it might make more sense if she were black given the circumstances, I am not sure people would like the white man saves black woman from black man narrative either. If they did cast a black actor to play James Bond, it would be interesting to remake this movie. What I mean is, don't just have one token black guy as Bond, have most of the cast be black. It might even help people accept the new actor. Why is Bond black? Well, he's investigating something where everyone involved is black, so if we sent white Bond he would stand out like Roger Moore in Harlem in 1973.

The film was Roger's second film and he still looked the part. The filmmakers were allowing him to play the role more seriously and he was allowed to be tough. Christopher Lee was brilliant as Francisco Scaramanga who arguably was the best Bond villain ever. The idea that James Bond would be facing off against a man of equal skill, not for Queen and country, but because the assassin wants to kill him was brilliant. The ending of the film was a little disappointing Bond dispatching Scaramanga so easy and I could have done without J. W. Pepper's return. To Chris Bumbray (writer/narrator) this series is incredible. I have been a die hard Bond fanatic for 30 of my 40 years...and I am amazed to learn NEW things from your videos. Thank you (it's a shame you didn't like LALD more....your review was fair, but Jane Seymour deserved a 10, not a 6)

Thanks so much. I interviewed her a few months ago. The subject (the war with grandpa) was awful - but she was lovely. Still drop dead gorgeous.

Exactly mate, nothing wrong with this film

The Blaxplotation angle is pretty damn cringe. I think the BBC Radio Adaptation of the novel is vastly superior.

Best advert for Rolex watches ever in a movie . Plus at the beginning of the film , introducing the "Pulsar" the worlds first production LED watch . Worth a fortune , if boxed , etc .

This is the first Bond film I ever saw in a theater, so it has the proverbial _"special place in my heart."_ FWIW: My two FAVORITE _gadgets_ from all the Bond movies are the autogyro {or gyroplane} _"Little Nellie"_ from *YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE,* and the _magnetic wrist watch_ from this film.

YES finally here we go: Roger Moore Bond Movies, I love it!!! Roger Moore is my favorite Bond (I grew up with his movies) so there is a lot of nostalgic in consideration ;-) Sure this is by far not the best Bond, but pretty entertaining! Wow, didn't know Moore was already 45 on his first Bond. For my List, there are some very close calls. I basically like all the bond movies! 1. From Russia with Love 2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service 3. Thunderball 4. Live and Let Die 5. Goldfinger 6. Dr. No 7. Diamonds are Forever 8. You only Live Twice

Solitaire was not black in the novel.

Correct. In the novel, Bond describes her as looking French.

I remember her being *Hatian* , to me that meant Black.

"The name "Solitaire" is given to her by the Haitians because of her apparent exclusion of men from her life. The only physical difference appears to be that Solitaire is stated to have blue-black hair; she also possesses pale skin reminiscent of the tropical planter class. " Haiti had once been a French colony and Solitaire was of French stock born in Haiti. Most likely she was of mixed heritage with heavy French bloodline. At the time of the story taking place she was most likely in exile from the Duvalier reign. Many where light skinned mulato which are no a small minority in Hati. Some would then flee to places like Louisiana, especially New Orleans after the rise of Duvalier. Sorry for the History lesson but does explain Solitaire background and part of the setting for the story.

Not parcel to the movie, but what is the music background that ends the video?

2:42 "For one thing, Saltzman and Broccoli wanted the main Bond girl, Solitaire, to be black, as she was in the book." I am currently reading the book, and Solitaire is white. Her is Ian Fleming's description: "Her face was pale, with the pallor of white families that have lived long in the tropics. But it contained no trace of the usual exhaustion which the tropics impart to the skin and hair. The eyes were blue, alight and disdainful, but, as they gazed into [Bond's] with a touch of humour, he realized they contained some message for him personally. It quickly vanished as his own eyes answered. Her hair was blue-black and fell heavily to her shoulders. She had high cheekbones and a wide sensual mouth which held a hint of cruelty. Her jawline was delicate and finely cut. It showed decision and an iron will which were repeated in the straight, pointed nose. Part of the beauty of the face lay in its lack of compromise. It was a face born to command. The face of the daughter of a French Colonial slave-owner."
