The submarine crews take on Stromberg’s troops inside the Liparus tanker in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (1977). The scene was filmed at the newly constructed 007 stage at Pinewood which was built at a cost of £600,000 to specially house the tanker set.

Rest in Peace Jeremy Bulloch. Most just know him as Boba Fett from Empire Strikes Back. But he also played a submarine member in these scenes, storming the armored upper sub hangar deck right behind the leader in the white shirt and gets gunned down before the flame thrower scene. He was a charming guy without airs and graces. I never forget how I ate Pizza with him on a SW convention 1983 in Frankfurt Germany. Thanks for the nice memories Jeremy.

There's always Bond tropes found in pretty much every Bond film, like Bond girls, car chases, Martini, Bond quips, big maniacal villains, henchmens etc. But this a trope, once super common, that has somehow disappeared entirely. I mean almost every Connery film had these massive battles between dozens/hundreds of allies of Bond in either some villain lair, or massive set. Even Thunderball had this but underwater, and even later in Bond films like Living Daylights and the Afghanistan Hercules Takeoff technically. But you rarely ever see it, if they ever storm a lair its only Bond and one other ally. I hope they bring this back in future installments, always fun to see massive sets and awesome sprawling action.

One of the few times in the series where it didn't matter if you were British, Soviet or American. Survival was key and wouldn't have stood a chance if ideological differences prevailed. How when they escape the Liparus going down, there's Soviet sailors on the USS Wayne too. No man left behind, except the two poor buggers swimming after the sub.

Found it always hilarious that their camera work had to work around the fact that Moore didn't like shooting and closed his eyes while doing it. When you take a closer look at his shooting scenes you can see that there's always a cut when he's shooting. Like the other massive army fight in YOLT this one may look impressive but is massively flawed on a logical base. Prison is barely protected, same with the weapon storage. They basically invite the prisoners to break out, arm themselves and raid the entire ship. The command center might be well protected but outside of that, this is no security concept at all. YOLT did that a bit better as the attackers had to come from outside and had to suffer massive losses. They would have even failed without help from inside. Still, it always bothered me that the praised Ninjas got slaughtered and didn't seem to be very competent in that movie. The only mass fight scene I really like is the warehouse raid from "FyEo" where you have actual competent fighters.

"Release the other crew and head to the armory". Assuming they even know where that is given they've been locked up the entire time. Got to love how bad these sailors are at gun battles, no taking cover, no firing from the shoulder, surprisingly adept at using firearms that likely weren't British issued and grenades without training.

they’re crew in a submarine, im no expert but im almost positive they didn’t have any training at all with guns, and also that gun is better at firing from the hip based one that grip and where the ammo is placed
@michaelwernimont4410

Think of it this way. They were crews on a nuclear submarine. The submarines had nuclear missiles ,as well as all of the equipment & codes that would have been used to launch the missiles. Under the circumstances,I would definitely have given the crews extensive weapons training ...both in how to use weapons & what to do if captured. Those submarines would have been a great capture for any terrorist group during the Cold War.. as well as a high source of knowledge for either side. The Soviets would have definitely wanted to capture an American or British submarine with nuclear missiles,& we would have definiteky wanted to capture one of theirs. Just a historical reminder.. much of what the United States & especially Britain learned about the secret codes from Nazi Germany came from recovering captured code machines & their code books. So,it would be inportant to prevent your opponent from recovering any of that material.
