Bond (Pierce Brosnan) is attacked by the buzz-saw-wielding helicopter at Zukovsky’s Caviar Fishery in THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (1999). The scene was filmed in Pinewood’s paddock tank which had to be enlarged by 50 per cent to accommodate the huge wooden set. The deadly helicopter was originally in the script for GOLDENEYE (1995).

Zukovsky's glee as Bond car is destroyed sums up their relationship. They might be allies when things gets serious but he is also a rival who will take vindictive joy out of Bond losing so long as it doesn't actually kill him. Bond after all did shoot him in the knee.

I like how the buzz-saw helicopters aren't just some silly contrived weapon the villain is using, but real tools used to cut trees near powerlines and such, and therefore completely plausible for the King company to actually own.

It could've been some generic "action for the sake of the action scene", but David Arnold's score truly elevates it up a notch, because he perfectly captures its adventurous and a lil-bit tongue and cheek tone. Also, Brosnan's acting, he's terrific as Bond.

'Action for the sake of action?' That's what Bond IS. Take that out, and what do you have? A few wristwatches with unique features? Cars that allow you to eject the passenger? Movies that are always inexplicably a half hour longer than they should be? I've walked out of the theater a time or two with complaints about a Bond film, but never about there being too much action for the sake of action...

Most of the time, no matter what condition it is in, James was always able to return the car at least. The few times he couldn't was when the self-destruct was activated. Can't let the enemy get their filthy mitts on such technology. To see this car be destroyed without the excuse of the self-destruct is painful. Also, despite their banter, James respected Q. He was a surrogate father figure to James. That level of respect can only be obtained by doing what he could to return the equipment.

Notice that in the 25 movies, there's only really a small number you can truly say Bond "falls in love with".... only Tracey, Vesper, Elektra and Madelaine really....each of them as damaged and cold and distant as Bond himself when he first meets them
@Hei_Darkfire
@Hei_Darkfire Жыл бұрын
@@mikewhillier4963 We really don't know that though. There's always that ending where Bond goes off into the sunset with a girl (metaphorically), but we never see what happens to them and why they don't show back up again (other than maybe Paris, who did show up remarried). We don't know if Bond left them, or if it's like Alec implied that they would all get killed at some point or another. So since we don't see what kind of relationship he has with many of the girls, we can't really say one way or another if he "falls in love" with them.

I think every action movie should have 2-4 scenes that are worth the price of admission by themselves. For Your Eyes Only is probably top of the heap for Bond movies, with the remote control helicopter, the ski chase, the car chase where Bond-for once-gets stuck driving a car that sucks, and the climbing sequence at the end. But in The World is Not Enough, the pinnacle scene is this one, and one of the best action sequences in the entire franchise. I never found Brosnan as physically imposing as the other Bonds, but this scene played to his strength....great agility....he could move extremely well, and could make it look easy. Whoever came up with the idea of using that rotating blade should have gotten a nice bonus, because it took the movie to a whole other level.

Sometimes, the destruction of the car was completely unavoidable, mainly because the self-destruct was activated. Seeing that BMW get cut in half is always painful.
