Bond (Pierce Brosnan) and Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens) duel it out in the corridors of the Blades Club in DIE ANOTHER DAY (2002). The sword fight was choreographed by former Olympic fencer Bob Anderson who also doubled for Darth Vader in the Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi’s lightsaber duels.

Everything about this scene is perfection from the moment Bond & Graves begin fighting: the editing, the escalating tension of the magnificent music, the sound design, the general continuity between shots, and most of all the background extras who are all acting “appropriately” (within the context of the film): intensely interested, excited, shocked, scared, amused. Every aspect of sells the action and the escalating hostility between Bond and Graves.

@@fjccommish Bro, it’s not about the sword fighting (or fencing). That’s pedantic. I don’t a fuck whether it’s accurate or not because IT’S A JAMES BOND MOVIE. @@johndododoe1411 I believe they're longswords. They have long handles and blades that are as long as at least half the height of Bond and Graves. They also seem a bit on the heavy side, from how the two fighters swing them around. That rules out arming swords.

People use to hate DAD so much for many CGI and script mistakes, but in the last few years, it has grown on me a lot. Not one of my favourite Bond movies, but it's still a pretty good enjoyable one to watch. Despite its flaws, it still is a Bond film and it has its moments - this fight is one of them.

@@PurushaDesa True!! The "Comic book" argument really fits this particular film. It indeed looks like one and I'm also okay with that. All I wish is that this film had taken the "rogue agent" approach and had Bond wandering the Caribbean hunting for Zhao and the answer as to who betrayed him in North Korea without all the sci-fi stuff (e.g. Zhao could simply be trying to remove the diamonds from his face); but as it is, imo DAD is okay, but frankly fantastic until around this scene.

This is an excellent example of a well choreographed cinematic sword fight! I love how they use the longswords, there are no complicated movements just emotional hacking, exactly how amateurs would use such weapons, neither Bond nor Graves know how to use such weapons, which is excellently reflected in the fight. Usually you have the heroes being experts at handling any weapon, which is patently absurd. Nobody can use every weapon with the same level of skill.
