I've watched a few different video's where they melt staples into the bracket to keep it strong, but the mesh is an absolute genius idea! keep it stronger than a few staples. Just got a pair of replacement headlights for a focus but the brackets are missing, so I will be making new brackets and then plastic weld them on but will now use the mesh as well! Cheers, really enjoyed it.

Excellent job Steve as usual, if you super glue both bits of plastic and sprinkle on baking soda it sets instantaneously and won't budge either,or if you just want to fill a gap in plastic ,pour in baking soda and a few drop of super glue and it sets rock solid instantly 👍

Pukka job Steve! Iv done a fair bit of plastic welding in the past and I usually add a skim of araldite over the top for strength. I never thought to use mesh. Thanks for sharing ur method, ill defo be trying it in the future.:)

I’ve done a bit of plastic tab welding, again I’ve never thought to embed some mesh. I will have to give that a try.

I have the same soldering iron - Lidl ftw! Did this a few times when I had a scooter on cracked body panels but using cable ties as welding rods. Seems to work much better than epoxy and does a cleaner job in my (limited) experience though I think the plastic on the fiesta headlights might be glass reinforced so I suppose it depends on the epoxy as well. Hell of a lot cheaper than a new headlight anyway!

Repaired many that way pal and when repaired ones are selling at £70 on eBay 100% worth it. I always put the plastic screw on the drivers side to match the passenger side

Scotch pad and epoxy. Saturate a small piece of pad in the epoxy and use it like tape. Works a treat. Did the better half's kia bumper tabs after an incident with a twig. Tacked in place with iron, put the epoxy pad underneath. Can't see it, works like a charm.

for extra strength when i plastic weld i use panel nails.Cut the head off then heat them up over the cooker ring whilst holding with pliers then quickly push them half way into one side of the repair then push the other repair piece on. Finish off by plastic welding the join and youll be surprised how strong the repair is.

Steve that looks like a solid repair, It may not be pretty but it's functional, it stops ono's eye falling out and thats the important thing, just one question, where did you get the mesh from? I need to do the same on my zafira where someone reversed into the front breaking the bracket and driving off....
@Sparkplugsteve5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I got it off ebay. I bought it for repairing the bumper but thays gone for scrap now.
@christophermason15745 жыл бұрын
@@Sparkplugsteve I will have a butchers, I think the way you done it will last a lot longer than the cable tie method because the mesh is now within the plastic not sitting on top. Keep up the good work
