great result. Can get smoother results if you use spot putty before you prime. Also the sanding should have started with 80 grit for the bondo to stick the best. Still worked i see but we shouldnt jump from 80 to 320, but go from 80- 180-320- 400 This ensures the 80 is erased by 180, and 180 erased by 320, and the paint sticks to 400 just fine. otherwise it was still good. I'd recommend fiberglass sheets since they are like 3$ from walmart. And also epoxy gorilla glue @ 5$ Still not hating on your video bro!

@speedkar994 жыл бұрын
From an engineering perspective, sharp edges are stress concentrations since it's a function of the inverse radius. At the edge of a crack the radius is zero which means stress approaches Infiniti. When you drill a hole you effectively made the crack's radius the same as the radius as the drill bit, which is far greater than the almost zero radius of the crack. Therefore the stresses in that region are a finite amount, and the bumper crack is less likely to propagate.

Well its the way you can do it at home! A professional would probably replace the bumper, since they're fairly cheap.

speedkar99 I guess you're right about that. There is a liquid two part plastic. Just like the JB weld. You put it on a piece of plastic like a sandwich bag. Mix it and push it against the bumper. Spread it like bondo. It becomes the bumper. Flip the bumper over when the plastic is hard grind out the crack and fill it with the same plastic. That actually makes the hold mend. Great job!! Hi it's not a ideal bumper repair. If you use epoxy on thermo plastic make the surface really rough almost hairy then oxidate the hairy surface with heat quickly with a flame torch for example that will increase the bond a lot. The epoxy is much harder then the bumper material. So the to different plastic don't cooperate well. There is another very easy way to repair a bumper that I prefer. Fix the bumper like you did and use a solder iron to melt the bumper together from the inside. If a small piece of bumper material is missing you can use a part from another bumper as a plastic welding rod or to increase the welding joint if needed. I saved a fortune on repairing bumpers like this and the bumpers was broken up till 4 pieces.

SUBD ! thank you so much for this video. My car slid backwards into a very sturdy hedge. Smashed tail light and split the bumper plastics. It looked terrible and I was worried as to the cost but , your video showed what to do. Great tutorial dude... Even the respray !

For anyone wondering when he mentions in the comments and video about the correct filler: he's talking about bumpers needing plastic filler instead of body filler like he used in the video @2:16 (this is because bumpers need to be more flexible or it can crack again from the strain). I used Flex Filler on amazon due to price to amount ratio ($30 for 10oz). You can get a bondo bumper repair kit but it gives you way less filler in the kit (2oz of product for $19); it does come with sandpaper and all the other materials so it's only for small areas

Awesome vid man... thanks for sharing. What kind of primer and spray paint do you use btw?
@speedkar998 жыл бұрын
+Anthony Apelu Thanks, the paint was mixed at carquest. The primer is regular all purpose spray primer from a hardware store.

I noticed my car has a crack in the bumper. Gonna do this when it gets warm out..or just replace it with a stronger bumper which has fog lights Good video very simple straight to the point.
@speedkar996 жыл бұрын
+gsteel98 thanks. If it's a cheap bumper like this accord I recommend replace it
@gsteel986 жыл бұрын
speedkar99 yeah the last bumper I changed was a 97 toyota camry.. this car I'm talking bout now is a 2000 camry...pretty much same bumper. I might just ride it out til summer then change them into fog lights

Wow, I need to do this for my Honda Accord as well. Where can you buy touch up paint that will match the manufacturer's? My Honda is silver.

why didnt you use the jb weld plastic epoxy for the front of the crack? that is the first time i have seen someone wetsand with dry sand paper, ha.
@speedkar998 жыл бұрын
+JOEGGGJOE JB weld will dry hard and is harder to sand off the front. Filling it between and behind the crack was sufficient enough.
@copperkeyracing61675 жыл бұрын
He used regular 400grit sandpaper, not wet sand paper... then he did actually wet it, but it didnt change the look of the paper. Look again.

I fixed my bumper using construction adhesive, then the Bondo fiberglass repair to fill in the small cracks and holes that were left. Finally put the Bondo finishing filler over everything. It goes on smoother than the fiber glass and you can sand it almost to a high sheen with 1500 grit sandpaper. I then spray painted it and lightly sanded with 2000 grit after first coat and put a very light second coat after that. Finished it all with two quick coats of clear coat and used 3000 grit between coats. Very much a novice at autobody repair and completely winged it, but it came out looking perfect. Especial considering it was a pretty extensive crack. Has been holding strong for just about two years now.

Epoxy wont stick on that ABS. Itll fall off a few weeks after. The proper way to repair this is using a soldering iron and melting the plastic together or ursing special 2k abs filler/glue (like WURTH replast).
@speedkar996 жыл бұрын
That's a good tip

The epoxy he used is a 2k abs filler/ glue.

Unreal! A project like this at the body shop easily charged $1,500.00 thx a bunch!
@speedkar996 жыл бұрын
+Hadouken Hadouken thanks Of course the body shop is doing it the right way by replacing all the parts instead of repairing them, but this is a quick easy method for you to do yourself at home.
