Having fled for my life here in Alberta back and 2023 from a firestorm I can relate. It's terrifying and it's something you never want to repeat again. It took me months of sleepless nights and bad dreams to finally process how abrupt and terrifying it feels to be ripped from the life you built for yourself. Then again possessions are fleeting, its being alive that counts... Praying for everyone at this hour from Canada!

That’s how fires work. Most forest fires stay in the understory and do not completely consume standing trees. When there are buildings around and they catch fire, they are bound to be total losses because of how flammable they are.

California Palms actually protect themselves and grow stronger through fire. It's part of the natural growth, fire and regrowth patterns of the West... Ironic since their oil is highly flammable and the burning palm fronds are what were largely responsible for spreading embers from house to house in the area... Time to rebuild using fireproof materials and xeriscaping..

Time to update the regulations on fireproof materials in high fire risk zones before rebuilding happens. If not, these places are going to be permanently uninsurable and with good reason...

Wanting to place blame is understandable but we had to balance the budget and she cut the fire dept the least of any agency -- 2 percent. There's a lot of misinformation out there. Joe Rogan had it on his podcast a year ago. We've just been lucky this didn't happen sooner. Climate change = crazy wind events

Reminds me how the burning of Atlanta would have looked. so sorry for everyone's loss. I had a burglary once, from that experience I decided to get rid of stuff and sock the cash away in the bank or investments. That was a wise decision. I don't miss the stuff and the investments paid off well.
