This movie is bonkers. The story sprawls out and goes all over the place; the bad guy is under-utilized; not everything that goes on makes sense. HOWEVER. "Krull" is a grade-A blast, deserving of far more love than it seems to get. It's never boring, the characters are engaging, the visuals are lovely, the concept sparks the imagination and did I mention that it's fun on a bun? Goes to show ya that technical perfection alone does not a good movie make -- this movie entertains, excites, and amuses, all with its own style, doin' its own thing. Can't ask for better than that. Four stars; Doc Rotwang! sez check it out.

Battle Beyond the Stars, Rocketeer, Krull, Star Trek I, Star Trek II, and Star Trek III all use the same music, just revamped to personalize each movie. Star Trek II's soundtrack knocked my socks off when I first heard it, and so it was a little weird hearing bits and pieces of it in other soundtracks. But now I have totally different out look on it and I love it. By re-using these incidental pieces in multiple movies, it gives our universe its own consistent soundtrack, and each time I hear strains of this music in a different movie I feel comfortable and at home. No two soundtracks are identical, yet they have a warm familiarity. It now makes each movie more exciting and personal.

The main title wasn't on the original soundtrack album, and when we finally got the expanded score, hearing this for the first time in years was like time travel to a more innocent and magical year. The moment at 1:40 when those incandescent strokes on the strings began, channeling the fire mares, I thought I was going to lose it. And just when a lesser main title might be winding down, at 3:06, Horner doubled down on the grandeur. It isn't often that a fantasy film begins working magic on the audience before its first scene, but pure magic is what we have here.

"This it was given me to know. That many worlds have been enslaved by the Beast and his army, The Slayers. This too was given me to know. That one day the Beast would come to our world. The world of Krull. And the smoke of burning villages would darken the sky. And the crys of the dying would echo through the land. But the one thing I cannot know, whether the prophecy be true. That a girl of ancient name shall become queen. She shall choose a king. And together they shall rule our world. And their son shall rule the galaxy."

Man, the choir at the start of this piece always gives me chills. According to the liner notes in the LaLaLand Records release of this, it represents "the legacy of the ancient world of Krull". I love how it immediately evokes exactly that feeling - of this ancient and mysterious place full of unknown wonders. If only more stories were set in the Krull universe - films, TV shows, novels, comics, games, anything!

I love the back bass notes suggest a very dark sinister place. Then the beautiful.female voice come i. Suggesting a light in the dark. Even a call for help from light. Then the horns soumd as if a calling to arms as the orchestra slowly over powers the dark back tones. And finally at 1:12 its as if a hero has emerged and is being glorified. Then the soring high strings like he is riding on the wind to the rescue. And next is like a galloping type of sound and I imagine him charging on horse back to fight. Idk thats how I hear it everytime. As if the land called him and he came

The number of good remakes of old movies is far overshadowed by the number of horrible horrible cinematic turds that crap all over the originals. I will watch this anytime to enjoy the music. James Horner's simple phrasing and motif approach produce incredibly catchy fun heroic scores. I've seen people downing him for copying other composers, however, writing variations on a theme by (insert composer) is a centuries old custom. In addition he isn't writing a stand-alone symphony. The score overwhelming the film would be ridiculous.
