LYRICS They turned him out of Beechworth gaol in 1871, He put in three long years behind those walls, For the stealing of a horse which he swore he'd never done, But now he sees the sun and turns his back upon it all, "Walk softly," cried the magistrate who'd counted up the score, "Walk softly," cried the turnkey as he clanged the iron door, "Walk softly," cried his comrades cringing on that prison floor,

I don't know why they would get a British rock star to play an Irish Australian outlaw

As a history buff, it's easily explainable. But with the Irish Whiskey I have in me tonight, I can't explain it to you. Jagger was (is) a rebel and about 40 clicks more believable as Ned Kelly than Heath Ledger. Besides a Jew (Shel Silverstein) and a Texan from English ancestry (Waylon) and another Texan of Danish ancestry (Kris) does the music. Just consider this; Australia started as a penal colony for Great Britain, so where else would a motley crew of outlaws and rebels go to show their appreciation for a downtrodden man who came before them and fought for a better life?
