At 3:22 of you video where you are pointing at the sensor... the black flat looking thing in the front of the radiator that is vertical is a petcock drain for the radiator... no mess no disconnecting the lower hose.... turn out to drain then turn back in.

What is the black knob on the lower RF corner of the radiator?

That's the drain petcock. I don't like to use them on older machines because sometimes they can break. That's why I disconnected the lower hose.

Doesn't the fan default on when that switch is unplugged? I tried unplugging it and my fan didn't turn on which I thought meant the fan motor is toast. But maybe it's just that thermal switch?

Why do you have to drain the coolant? Couldn't you quickly screw in the new one and therefore maybe loose only a few drops instead of emptying the whole system?
@Whitestrash4 жыл бұрын
You could try it. It is on the lower part of the radiator so it's gonna lose a lot of coolant in the time it takes to remove and replace it.
@thebrothers43112 жыл бұрын
So the fan can still be turned on when jumped, but the heat sensor portion was bad?
@Whitestrash2 жыл бұрын
Yes the thermal switch can be bypassed. The fan will run all the time as long as the key is on.

I got an 02 Trail Boss 325. My fan was working and I changed the thermistor and sensor switch that screws into the oil cooling fan. I noticed however that the fan never comes on after changing the parts. Maybe the oil never gets hot enough to kick on the fan? What are your thoughts?
@Whitestrash2 жыл бұрын
You could heat the switch up with a heat gun to see if it works. Don't go crazy tho you don't want to melt any wires
@ezio85912 жыл бұрын
@@Whitestrash yes, thanks, I'm going to follow your two tests on the trail boss. I use Royal purple in there so maybe it keeps the heat down just enough where the sensor doesn't register the heat, I'm hoping that's all it is and the fan kicks on with the heat gun. Thanks again for the video.
@ezio85912 жыл бұрын
@@Whitestrash just thought I'd add an update. I unscrewed the sensor from the oil cooler and heated it up with low flame of a blow torch slowly and the fan came on so all is good. I don't know what the temp threshold is but it had to be pretty hot in order for the fan to kick on, to the point where I couldn't even touch the sensor. I doubt my oil will get that hot, idk. I'm using an aftermarket cheap sensor (Caltric) so maybe the threshold is higher and the OEM would be lower? Cheers.
@Whitestrash2 жыл бұрын
@@ezio8591 awesome. Yeah I'm sure the threshold is different on cheaper ones, but if it works, it works. In my experience, air cooled machines with an oil temp switch hardly ever cycle the fan.

@Whitestrash2 жыл бұрын
@@bill_mosienko Yeah im pretty sure the 335 is air cooled. If you look at the side of the cylinder head and see fins and it's not smooth, it's air cooled and that is just an oil cooler.
