Thanks for the video! Removed the dash, and was in the process of removing the ac box. I removed the nuts holding the box inside the cab, then got stumped, I couldn't see anymore fasteners and the box was still pretty secure. I had to fight the urge to rip out the box, so I came inside to look up more videos and found this one! I bet this will solve the problem! I'm embarrassed to admit that the A/C hasn't been working for about 10 years. I had the ac flushed recharged, they put the R134 with the die in the system at least twice and no one could find the leak. I finally gave up, until yesterday I got a wild hair and started flinging bolts after watching too many videos. Thanks again, I tried to attach a picture of my plastic actuator key, it's cracked in half. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem. The truck is old enough to have a few more in the ac system.

Thank You very much for your Great Video! I had no heat in My 2000 Dodge Ram 1500! I took everything apart and removed the Actuator and put it back together and i have heat! The back screw i had to use a phillips bit and channel locks!! It was a Real Bitch, but i didnt have to take the dash out! I just cut padding under the carpet to get access!

I have a 2nd Gen 2000 dodge 1500 and putting the a/c system back in. Looks like I have this problem as well considering I was only getting heat during the winter when I got the truck running again switching between heat and regular air flow(no a/c).

It is definitely a common cause of failure with these trucks. If your heater always seems to be on or you can only get ac. Its usually that blend door key

@@theinfamoussixcylinder3945 I went to the junkyard last weekend and found an actuator and blend door key but thinking about that little plastic piece breaking again I think I'll be getting Heater Treater. Your video as well as Matt Payne's videos convinced me that it's worth the $.

Good video. I have an 04 Ram. Recently, it blows cold air when I want heat. I can eventually get hot air by turning climate switch back and forth until I hear the door slam. This morning, I couldn't get it to work. I cant tell where the door is located in the video. More detail would be appreciated.

I think your HVAC airbox on yours is a little different given the year. But on mine the box lives right behind the glove compartment and the door actuator lives on the bottom of that box almost right up against the transmission tunnel. Best of luck.

Possibility a person could put a washer around the cracked end that goes into the blend door, we use to run international trucks and those accuators would do the same thing , we would install new ones but we would place a washer around the new ones on the blend door side

I have a 01 ram 1500 my ac/heat will not run. Once in a blue moon it will kick on and blow out.. if I turn my heat on I can feel it in the vents but it is not blowing. Now I'm not sure if it's even doing that... is that the same problem as this?
@theinfamoussixcylinder3945
@theinfamoussixcylinder3945 3 жыл бұрын
Not really. Sounds like you've got a blower motor issue. Most likely cause is one of three things, the blower itself, the blower transistor or the control module with the fan speed
@theinfamoussixcylinder3945
@theinfamoussixcylinder3945 3 жыл бұрын
The problem in this video mainly concerns either ac or heat being stuck. Where you can turn the fan on and off but you cannot select hot or cold

If you have a 3D printer, or know someone who does, there's probably one of these old plastic parts on Thingiverse that can be printed. It'll work just as good.

I don't know for sure if you can buy the plastic one. Best guess is your local auto parts store and if not, the next is the dealership. But check out the link in the description for the METAL replacement

Now I got heat in the summer but nothing in their winter. I have flushed the heater core and put in a new thermostat and I just put in a new water pump but still barely any heat in the winter what do you think it can be.

Cody I can you get the AC to come on and blow cold. If you have any AC that is. If you can't get the AC to blow then it may be a problem with the blend door. If you can get the AC to blow cold, then it might be the heater core itself. You can only flush it so many times. After that you just have to replace it.

This is only for the blend door that switches from AC to heat when you turn the temperature knob.

Tried this on my 01 today. Small crack, I just don't see how it still wouldn't work. I turned it by hand, and needle nose, and it worked fine. I've already flushed the heater core multiple times both directions. Only thing I can think with mine is there's crap in the core that won't flush out. Or I heard there's a possibility of cracked dash parts that fell into the blend door area. The dash was replaced before I bought it. It's just blowing lukewarm air, enough for the defrost to keep up, so I think I'll just buy a cigarette lighter heater. Air works great. Unless anyone else has any ideas? Just starting to get cold here.
@theinfamoussixcylinder3945
@theinfamoussixcylinder3945 6 жыл бұрын
william heskett if you turn the blend door with the needle nose and it works fine, I'd guess that the blend door key is cracked. The motor turns with a lot of torque and is designed to hold the door with tension when it's set to full cold or hot. So it may be that you're not getting full air pass through the heater core. The other thing to check would be the blend door motor itself. See if it's working.

The Infamous Seven Cylinder Thanks for the reply, it seems to heat better if I turn it down on the blower motor. Motor seems to work fine. I can her it cycling when I switch from defrost to floor to vent so on. Air works great in the summer. -25 windchill last night. Hope this is the only cold spell until spring. Truck won’t fit in the garage to do the heater core. Thanks again for replying

The Infamous Seven Cylinder I'm having problems with the heater working it barely gets luke warm and I'm trying to figure out how to flush out the heater core the correct way but these guys on youtube arent explaining things throughly enough for me
@theinfamoussixcylinder3945
@theinfamoussixcylinder3945 7 жыл бұрын
REWREW if you're trying to flush only the heater core it might be difficult. The inlet and outlet lines are located at the back of the fire wall underneath the cowl. There's not a lot of room to work with, that far back into the engine bay, but once you get the lines off it should be easy goings from then on. Just do your best not to force anything. If you bend or kink the heater core outlets then you'll more than likely end up with a leak. Once you get the inlet and outlet lines off, you could take a garden hose and attach it to the inlet on the heater core via a separate radiator hose that you would by from auto zone or Napa. However, IF YOUR HEATER CORE IS LEAKING, flushing it with a garden hose could potentially cause water to flow into the heater core box where the air gets heated and blown into the cab. If this is the case you could accidentally cause water to flow into the truck. But in my opinion, that would be the cheapest way to flush only the heater core assuming your heater core isn't leaking. And once more, it's a good idea to flush the entire cooling system anyways and put in a coolant additive for sludge buildup. This way you help clear out any other debris that was missed during the flush and help prolong the life of your cooling system and engine.
