Hello, I'm a new subscriber via EEVBlog guest spot. Glad he picked you as one of his guest speakers. I have a similar HDMI recorder and when I use the mic I added a drop of White Nail polish ($1 at the Dollar store) on the knob and the case. I love the concept of your channel being open-source. My clients are Windows but my heart is in Linux. Look forward to watching some of your videos. I also have a channel but, it's a work in progress. Keep Broadcasting!!

I’m so impressed how you could casually ponder whether writing a driver is worth your time. For me, that project would be an epic project of a lifetime. I wish I knew how to go about something like that. I have so much to learn!
@OpenTechLab
@OpenTechLab 6 жыл бұрын
+kieferonline I would once have said the same thing. It's not so hard when you know how: Watch video [002] for info on driver writing, read "USB in a nutshell", watch the usbmon section of video [005] for how to reverse engineer the protocol, and then look at how other USB kernel drivers work by browsing the kernel source code - most drivers are only a few hundred lines of code. Then you have to get your code upstream which takes quite some patience, but it's completely doable if you want to take the time doing it

Just wanted to say that this is by far my favourite EE channel on youtube. The LA stuff and showing how you would go about debugging various protocols using sigrok and other open software has been personally very helpful. Here's hoping for many more of these to come! P.S. have you considered submitting your next video to EEVBLOG regarding his call for January guest content? I'm sure many people would benefit from one of your deep dives debugging something and your channel would probably get an influx of subscribers. That's if submissions to EEVBLOG are still open of course...

Hi, very great video.. i hope you answer this.. If i have a RCA/s video output from a microscope. And i want to capture it upscaled as a 1080p video. Would I choose this device? Or should i just buy a signal upscaler RCA to HDMI 1080p, and then capture the HDMI signal to external hdmi recorder like the atomos ninja star?

И еще вопрос - есть такое устройство HDV-UH60 HD to USB3.0 Video Capture Dongle Box. Чуток подороже, но по характеристикам тоже или нет. Ну конечно если вы сталкивались при выборе устройства. Спасибо заранее. Жду консультации перед покупкой.

@mikeselectricstuff... *In many European jurisdictions, documents marked confidential, can be seen to constitute a contract of privacy, whereupon you grant consent to be contractually bound, just by reading it.* *Often, but not always, this is codified in the opening paragraphs or header... Something along the lines of,* _If you do not agree, you must stop reading and return the document; continuing implies contractual consent_ *etc etc.* *I believe contract law in the UK is similar to this... Don't quote me, though, I'm not a **-bastard blood sucking twat-** lawyer.*

BTW about rigol, i'm surprised that there is not good driver for 1000z series for sigrok (pulseview), there is just universal driver which was made for 1052e and with this you can't get data from memory, i was looking for better driver and found this github.com/3s1d/libsigrok-dev unfortunately it's obsolete and can't compile anymore with new sigrok/pulseview. I'm not good enought in programming to modify it so i still hope someone would revive that project...
@OpenTechLab
@OpenTechLab 6 жыл бұрын
Part of the issue is that PulseView and libsigrokdecode have typically had incomplete support for scopes - that is now improving, but there were issues to solve first. Certainly everyone wants to have the 1000Zs working, but no-one made time to do it yet.

It's a shame ITE and indeed many fabless chip companies are reluctant to be open about talking to their hardware. Surely this secrecy can only be from worrying about someone copying their design. Even their design is probably based on someone else's building block. I mean, Espressif Systems (ESP8266, ESP32 fame) don't seem to have done too bad out of being open about their hardware. Interesting video as always.

Pleasepleaseplease do the HDML cloneralliance Evolve model and the Flint 4kp. Probably the most comprehensive technical review I have ever seen. You are a godwizard.
@lostspace5811
@lostspace5811 5 жыл бұрын
Background: im passionate about filming local bands as a freelance film maker. For the last few years ive been looking to livestream from my Nikon 1 J1 using 1970s bolex lens via c-mount ring. My plan is to use one of these cloneralliance boxes... I aim to use bluetooth tx/rx to send sound desk audio to my backpack unit containing the cloner interface and power supply and combine it with the camera audio.. Hopefully mixed easily to preference the desk sound direct to bluetooth tx or via Tascam Dr40 monitoring output to bt tx. The flint can connect to cloneralliance app and stream from android but the evolve can instead save a backup copy to usb or tf micro for band members realtime. Im most worried about how the flint is powered as unlike the evolve there seems to be no dedicated power and I'm unsure what it will be draining. If using android the connector takes up the charging port. I have a 5v mini pc (Gole 1) running win10 or android. But the flint uses usb 3.0 which the mini pc has... So thats another bonus, I would be thinking about getting both or the flint and some capture solution with 4k through if I upgrade to a sony alpha 7sii sometime. I am really curious and focused on what the audio quality will be like and what sync issues I will have even though live streaming removes quality anyway. Thoughts? I'm an art student so this is a budget build as always.

Oh.. My Nikon 1 J1. I removed the lithium cells making up 7.4v and inserted a potentiometer chip ramping via usb micro input from 5v power supply. To use the battery contacts I barbarically wired this to the battery chip also in hopes it might circumvent any issues by pretending to be an en_el20 battery. So my backpack will have a power solution with several usb power outputs for camera, mini pc, bluetooth receiver if needed, cloner if needed. Thanks

OpenTechLab I'm wondering if they sometimes laser the part numbers off the chips if maybe the date codes are old ("new-old stock"), or possibly using something that would normally require a license agreement? I've never really understood why they often wipe the part numbers in China though, as it rarely takes that long to reverse engineer most stuff anyway, or find datasheets etc. The two clock oscillators on the IT9910 will likely be for USB 2.0 and the core (12 MHz), and the 27 MHz for video. 27 MHz is a multiple of the most common digital video standards. So, 13.5M for 240p / 480i, 27M for 480p, 74.25M for 720p, and 148.5M for 1080p. ;) (usually around 29.97 fps, but I think some of the 25 fps "PAL" modes also use a multiple of 27 MHz for the pixel clock?)

I know this is a cheap device btw, but it looks like it works well, so it's a shame they used an old-skool HD44780 LCD instead of a larger graphical LCD or even a small OLED. They would then have been able to show things like the mic input level etc., and I doubt it would have cost any more to build. The old ubiquitous LCD modules are handy, but the newer graphical displays are also dirt cheap now.
@electronash
@electronash 6 жыл бұрын
Being able to easily decode I2S audio from the LA captures is VERY useful. It would be amazing if that could be integrated into the sigrok GUI, where you just click one button after highlighting a range of samples, then it renders the audio waveform on the same timeline. Even better if a decoder could be added for some video formats too, but it might only be practical on the cheaper LAs to capture some low-bitrate video streams. Congrats on the EEVblog thing btw. I was already subbed to your channel, but it's always good to see the more in-depth stuff get more exposure. ;)

Bought this gadget just to understand that it is a total CRAP! Glitchy, unstable, stops recording for no apparent reason and video quality is rather bad and not in sync with audio.. There is honestly nothing good about this device. The "best" thing is - no support from Ezcap - feels like my mail has gone to /dev/null I truly regret this purchase and do not recommend anyone to do such a mistake. If you want to digitise your old VHS tapes, go the pc way.
