What always amazed me (and I never really understood) about a PLL is how both frequencies at the comparator get in phase-sync. The vco can adjust frequency as much as it wants, if it is not in sync with the clock of the local oscillator, the comparator will always see a difference and the loop will never "lock". Cool concept though. My first encounters with it date from over 40years ago when I was tinkering with my CB transceiver (before I got my ham license)

The VOC always changes it’s frequency if not locked. Otherwise it would be as you write.

I sure wish the footprint of this satellite was viewable from North America. Andreas, I would love a deep dive on PLL design sometime. I’ve made them work but only through trial and error. I want to know the math behind calculating the corner frequency of the loop filter.
@HB9BLA

You maybe find a more specialized channel for the PLL topic. I do not plan to cover it here. And maybe A satellite operator has mercy with you and gives you access to a spare transponder, too.

Hello Andreas, dose it matter if I supply 12v from a Clean Battery or from a switching power supply? Thank you & 73!
@HB9BLA
@HB9BLA 2 жыл бұрын
If your power supply is clean, it does not matter. I use this test to find out if my power supplies are clean: Compare it with a battery. I once made a video about cheap power supplies on my first channel. Maybe I cross-post it here.

What about building the receive part of a ZERO IF transceiver and use a Raspberry Pi IV to demodulate AM and FM signals, if you only want FM then what about getting an old CYBERNET 928 CB transceiver

Are there LNBs for the HF (Amateur) bands ?
@Richardincancale
@Richardincancale 2 жыл бұрын
They aren’t needed because HF = 3-30 MHz and can be received directly by a low cost SDR, eg RTL-SDR for a few dollars.
@HB9BLA
@HB9BLA 2 жыл бұрын
And on the lower bands we often need attenuators rather than amplifiers because of strong signals...
