Doctor Andrea Furlan explains what Vitamin D does in the body, what are the sources to obtain Vitamin D and how much should a person take of Vitamin D supplements. She also explains that it is important not to take too much Vitamin D because it can be toxic.
There are many foods that get supplemented with Vitamin D.

Years ago, I was waking up in the wee hours of the morning with bone pain. I also had muscle spasms and was very fatigued. Went to the doctor and he checked my vitamin D levels, which results showed level 6. After taking prescription strength D3 for 4 months, the symptoms went away. Peace and Blessings!🙏🏾❤️

I am a huge proponent of vitamin D (4000 IU/daily), but the numerous types of chronic pain I've endured are now nearly nonexistent by eating a KETO diet. The elimination of carbs, grains, processed foods and sugar have made an astonishing difference and have normalized my glucose levels, blood pressure and cholesterol in significant ways. It changed my life.

50000 units of vitamin D per week per my doctor and my blood test and it is amazing my hair is growing my eyebrows are growing back. Also I have arthritis and chronic back pain and it helps probably 90%. I actually thought I had fibromyalgia because I have random pain all over my body all the time and you know taking vitamin D every week stopped that random pain. On about the 5th or 6th day of the week I start having a lot of random pain again and I know to go take my pill. Thanks for this video you're helping tons of people!!!

I had pain in all my joints. Including the joints between my ribs and sternum, cervical and thoracic vertebrae, shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, hips, knees and feet. I also had muscle weakness and pain. It was so bad I had trouble getting up from a sitting position and great difficulty getting up from the floor . I also had a severe anxiety disorder. My NP had my vitamin D tested. I had a severe vitamin D deficiency. My NP had a bone scan done and my bone density was fine... Thank goodness. I was put on high dose vitamin D3 (50,000 IU once a week). My levels slowly went up. My pain decreased... It is now gone... My anxiety has also decreased. My naturopath wants my blood levels up to 125. It is now over 100 so I'm getting there. My pain was definitely caused by my severe vitamin D deficiency. I tested negative for autoimmune disorders.

@BlueSkies3
@BlueSkies3 2 жыл бұрын
@@nlove2k Usually that once a week prescription is D2, which is inferior to D3, ... D3 is superior. Your body can absorb the D3 faster. Because your body, while already being weak from being low in D3, is having to work harder to turn the D2 into D3. Also, a daily dose of vitamin D3 is better than one huge dose once a week. I was in horrible pain, hair falling out, bones easily breaking, barely able to walk, walking up just 3 steps felt like bones in legs were going to decentergrate, screamed when I washed and brushed my hair because it hurt so much to raise my arms. Once I had a shower I was exhausted and couldn't do anything else. Found out I was very D3 deficient ... I think my level was 6 or 8. I started taking vitamin D3, not D2 but D3 20,000 IU daily, then after 2 weeks, went down to 10,000 IU D3 daily. Take D3 with food that has fat in it because D3 is fat soluble. Take D3 in the beginning of your day verses the end of your day. And of course, if you can get sunshine, that's the best D3. But in the northern hemisphere it's harder this time of the year. I don't scream now when washing and brushing hair. Walking up stairs no longer feels like bones are going to decentergrate.

I live in Brisbane. We get plenty of sun here. My doc told me my vitamin D level was normal. I ended up in the hospital two weeks later for a different reason. They took blood tests just 2 wks after my local doc did and they told me I was extremely low in vitamin D and B12. I thought that was strange since my doc said it was normal. I have always had severe pain throughout my whole body with osteoarthritis fibromyalgia. In the hospital for 11 days, they gave me daily shots of vitamin D and B12 and suggested to continue with 2,000 mg a day. I felt it really helped my pain. After about 4 wks my local doc told me my level was normal and told me to stop taking it. My pain started coming back with a vengeance. I will now continue to take vitamin D again. My point is don't always listen to the doc. He told me my level was normal when gm fact I was extremely low. Thank you for this video.

I was on the verge of being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis….luckily, I had to get a second opinion as my first consultant was inappropriate in how he spoke to me. The new consultant noticed that my bones, on the x-rays looked odd….my bones appeared see through….she immediately diagnosed me with Vit D issues. Despite a test saying I was merely insufficient and not deficient, I was exhibiting the symptoms of someone who was deficient. I was immediately placed on a strong supplement and within 3 weeks I was pain free! My energy levels increased….was night and day, I know have to take a supplement daily.

The medical industrial complex's failure to properly research and diagnose and treat diet and microbiome and sleep and vital nutritional deficiency issues (including those related to Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 and Magnesium deficiencies as well as iatrogenic prescription medication usage) is a major reason why psychiatric iatrogenesis is a primary contributor to the third leading cause of death in the U.S. (which is iatrogenesis in general). If the U.S. spent just a fraction of the over $40 billion each year it spends just on iatrogenic psychiatric drugs alone, for properly researching the issues discussed in this and related KZbin presentations we would probably, Lord willing, achieve an absolute revolution in medical efficacy improvement and iatrogenesis reduction. Then I started just having pain all over. Was absolutely horrifying and so tough psychologically to be in constant pain. Thought I’d surely be in a wheelchair soon. Learned about vitamin D and pain. Started taking 2,000 units per day and seriously within a week my pain all over is 95% gone. Seriously!!!! Can’t believe it. Those amounts might be toxic for some individuals and not nearly enough for others so talk to your doctor and get checked out that's the only way you're going to know whether you're harming or helping your health.

Go outside and get some sun, especially in the mid-day when it’s the strongest. However, many of us use sun block, which is good for our skin but not so helpful when it comes to the production of vitamin D3. By blocking out the UVA and UVB rays, sun block can interfere the skin’s ability to synthesize vitamin D3. GOD BLESS.

The problem with Vit.D, at least here in Germany, is that doctors don't check it by default (you have to ask specifically and pay yourself) so most people don't know their levels. Even if you have been diagnosed with low Vit.D there are jo folllow-up checks. They tell you to take supplements (usually 1000 per day or 10000 every two weeks) and that's it. You get no feedback on whether you are taking enough or taking too little...it is extremely lackluster and can actually be dangerous...but nobody seems to care since there probably isn't enough money to be made off of Vit.D supplements. And then of course you have various non-medical sources that tell you to take enormous amounts of Vit.D and to ignore the risks...

I just saw a paper that indicated that if you took 50,000 units per week your vitamin D levels will be normal yet if you took less than that at 3000 units per day your vitamin D levels would drop below what was the target value of 30 ng/mL. I've been taking 50,000 units per week and my levels are 51 ng/mL so I've continued taking 50,000 units per week and have not resulted in hypervitaminosis for vitamin D3. I am heavier than most people so I would stress the fact that vitamin D levels depend a great deal on body weight and also inflammation as inflammation tends to use up vitamin D3. It's best for people to go to the physician and get their vitamin D levels checked as it appears to me that the dosing of vitamin D3 has to be tailored for the individuals particular medical conditions. I would suspect that an individuals intake of alcohol would also be another variable that could shift vitamin D levels down.

I have gone to many practitioners and have had minimal effectiveness. I asked my doc to test my vitamin and everything else (blood, liver, kidneys, all of it) just the other day. Found out I have low Vit D and need to bring my B12 levels up too. I had attempted to get my last doc to test me but she said she’d do it if I kept feeling poorly and the pain didn’t go away. For such simple tests they are I really was disappointed she didn’t test me when I first asked. Now I’m going to take some vitamin D supplements and hope to feel like my old self.

My physician found that my blood level of vit D was low and so recommended I take a vit D supplement, D2 because I am vegan and D3 is made from lanolin usually, D2 from carbohydrate fermentation. He prescribed a 20,000 IU capsule. I took half the cap. Within an hour I got a very bad headache and it lingered for a couple of days. I normally do not get headaches. I have osteoporosis and I think taking vit D is probably a good idea. Even though I get considerable sun exposure my level was low. My skin color is beige, I have a little bit of melanin. A week later I tried taking 1200 IU. I still got a headache, but not nearly as bad, and lasting only about 8-12 hours. What I do is take 1200 IU 2 or 3 times a week and I get a headache every time. My blood level is still low. I had a scoliotic spine since my teen years. even though I go plenty of sunshine. In summer I spent hours on white sand beach turning brown and not burning, several times every year, latitude level of New York City. In winter I got some sunshine too. Arms would become brown. At around age 55 I started getting a kyphotic spine and bone scan showed mild to moderate osteoporosis.

Hi, you may want to do some more research yourself. These days daily doses of 4000 IU (100 micrograms) are thought to be sufficient to increase your vitamin D3 levels. Please note that a healthy, "white skinned" young adult with uncovered face and arms may produce some 10.000-15.000 IU before getting sun burned. In that light e.g. 800 IU is ridiculously low. This idea was formed in the days when it was wrongly thought that all fat-soluble vitamins should be given in low doses. I take 10.000 IU Vit D3 per day and I am in the middle of the "green" optimal area (my blood is tested yearly). Please note: always combine vitamin D3 with vitamin K2, at least 100 micrograms per day. This prevents hypercalcemia, dangerous high levels of Calcium in the blood. It sends Calcium to your teeth and bones and helps to prevent osteoporosis in a rather natural manner. It also helps to prevent Calcium from ending up in your heart, blood vessels and soft organs like bladder and kidneys! You can all find this for yourself in medical literature and e.g. KZbin presentations.
@rredding

@@freepressright hi, that seems not ideal, probably because your body has difficulties processing these very very high doses. 10.000 daily works fine.

Not one mention of vitamin K2 and magnesium. When taking vitamin D3 supplements also take K2 and magnesium with it. K2 puts calcium where it belongs back into the bones. Got less joint pain and stiffness in my body along with more energy and an overall feeling of better health and well being.

Just about no one is going to reach 250nmol (100ng) taking the 'safe limit' of 4,000 IU per day. Most will need a lot more than that! :) FWIW, I'm been on ~8,000 iu D3 per day since the pandemic started and I have enjoyed great (and completely unexpected!) relief from hip and back pain, as well as a number of less specific aches. 50s, BMI of 24~25.

When I was taking just 2,000 I didn't see much benefit. I'm African American so it sounds like she's saying skin color makes a difference in this case. also I am totally blind and I just don't get out in the sun much. When I don't take my D3, I feel awful. i guess people have to find what works for them. I don't have any of those symptoms the Dr. talked about thank goodness. It sounds like you should start by taking about 4000 or 5000 i.u. daily, so that you can get your levels up steadily, but at the same time not shock your system such as before. make certain you get your magnesium levels up, so that you not get hypercalcemia. Also, vitamin D3 is fat soluble, so that it should be taken in the morning with a fat rich meal.

Since the beginning of Summer I was spending more than an hour outside every day in the sun. Even throughout the fall I continue to spend one to two hours outside everyday. As it gets colder i will be in the car, with the heat on, but still outside getting the sunlight through the car window. I had my vitamin D levels checked before summer and I was deficient I did something about that problem that was natural that I could afford and that was to be outside for at least an hour a day sometimes I was outside for 5 hours. And after 6 months of this experiment I got a second vitamin test , a blood panel. And I am still deficient and vitamin D I'm at 17 which is too low. That's proving my sunlight method does not work and I was outside from noon to sunset. With various breaks to use a bathroom and rehydrate but mostly outside for long periods of time. So what would be preventing my body from creating vitamin D from the sun? There's something blocking my ability to make vitamin D from the sun. I did far more than 15 minutes outside I did one to two hours minimum every day and some days it was more.

I learned about the correlation between vitamin D deficiency and the simple criteria of difficulty getting up out of a chair as noted by another doctor on KZbin. This led me to look at the Cochrane Library (peer reviewed meta-analysis site of studies) which spoke of the deficiency and muscle weakness and pain issues. When my deficiency was first identified, I was on a large dose for a few months and that did help. I’ve noticed that certain brands of over-the-counter vitamins do work better than others. There is also a correlation between vitamin D and multiple sclerosis. The correlation was found among those living in the Pacific Northwest with low sunlight. I would question the melanin protecting against UVB theory a bit as Bob Marley died of skin cancer at a young age.
@zeeqq105
@zeeqq105 2 жыл бұрын
It is a fact that melanin does protect against skin cancer. It must be noted Marleys father was Caucasian. His cancer came from under his toenail and it spread. I doubt if it came from being in the sun. However it should be noted that nothing is absolute. So anyone can get skin cancer….it’s just some more than others. There are always exceptions to every rule.

Very good informative video, my vitamin d is currently at a 22 . I’m in the US and the vitamin d 25 hydroxy tot level ranges from 20 to 80 , I believe 30 or higher is a optimal range anything below that is deficient..My doctor didn’t tell me that I was vit d deficient I guess because I was still considered in the “low normal range” I told her I have so much pain all over and feel weak when I walk etc. I was prescribed 50,000 iu D2 to take once a week for 8 weeks but I’m kind of hesitant to take it due to my research on the potentials side effects and raising my calcium levels. Then gave me the option of just taking 2,000-3,000 iu a day .. me watching this video is kind of wanting me to lean toward the smaller daily dose vs the higher dose . Thank you ❤️

You need to take k2 with it to avoid that 😀

Get this book “vitamin k2 and the calcium paradox”. Easy read. It explains everything you need more like 60 d 25 hydroxy levels. D3, vitamin K2, magnesium and to included natural form of vitamin A. Not palmitate. Google benefits of d3 and K2 together. You need higher doses for a while. K2 directs the calcium to the bones instead of soft tissues like arteries and joints.

Sounds like you pronounce D like "G". And D3 should be taken with magnesium, calcium, and K2 Mk7, for bone, heart and lower blood pressure.

@@matthias4077 Not intirely true. You can benefit from extra calcium growing older, as long as it goes where it should be.

Francisco Ballesteros 1 day ago Sunshine vitamin or steroid hormone was the most powerful medicine on earth given by our CREATOR. Sun Exposure The best way to get vitamin D3 is through sun exposure. GOD BLESS.

Good video, except the dosage amounts mentioned are obsolete. The quantities of D3 that must be consumed to achieve toxicity are exceptionally high, like 50,000 IU/day, over the course of many months, or even years. Also, there is no mention of vitamin K2. The proper consumption of K2 with D3 virtually eliminates any risk of toxicity.

The more I heard you the concepts becoming clearer...ie...as of today's discussion... we learn about conflicting reports of benefits of vit d in studies but overall benifits outweigh and so recommended....one thing mam ...how a person can know he she having toxicity...and put a break in taking supplements... should have at least some hints ..from the video...ie.... whether blood tests can say the same... agreeing fully that u always stress to consult dr...but my point is that a person should self learn as much as possible....thx

The problem is with supplements and dosage control. Vitamins in a pill are not regulated. Thus, natural Vitamin k2 mk7 and natural vitamin d12 would be preferred IMUPO. But getting natural k3 mk7 food products is a challenge If you don't live in Japan where Natto is easier to find on grocery shelves.

I take Vitamin D3-K2 all in one capsule so the proper ratios are already distributed. Each cap has 10,000 D3 - 100 mcg K2 and 100 mcg of Medium Chained Tryglycerides per serving. I take 2 a day all year round. The benefits are incredible and have helped me with all my ailments. Make sure to get the high end quality stuff when it comes to vitamins. The store bought vitamins are loaded with fillers, so it's important to research the brands.
