Wes is one of the best instructors/trainers out there, going all the way back to his Modo book from 2009. Allegorithmic was so smart to hire him.

I couldn't ask for a better tutorial of substance designer. 14 videos in and I feel like i've already learnt so much. I didn't realise how easy it was to create a material with a few simple nodes, reused over and over. I can see now, it's just a lot of work, some of it is tedious, some of it is experimenting. Its nothing hard to create the material you want, it's only how you're going to plan it with the nodes that are available.

can't believe how much power is in the materials.. designer and painter is giving me my passion back. Was stuck with grey 3D models, even with great topology, it was just a mesh. As soon as I brush up on modeling again, using it with substance will make a killer presentation! thanks for the series! hope to finish this material today

Man I love this program and this tutorial series along with another channels videos here on KZbin (Guys names Chunck I believe, its the channel name as well) just do a REALLY REALLY good job giving this big chunk of info in this well thought out structure, like in real life sculpting u start with the big shapes, like the instructor does here as well and so on. It's great, much love

Quick question, instead of doing this node graph, can you import a grayscale map made in lets say, photoshop? like, the exact same twig but made in PS? great tuts! :)
@Substance3D5 жыл бұрын
Yes! Totally fine to do this. You can use external resources instead of making the shapes procedural. Just right-click on the package and choose import or link resource. Import will embed the image into the project. When you publish the sbsar file, it will embed the resource if it is used directly in the graph.

I'm currently working through this tutorial on the newest version of substance designer, and the "capsule" pattern doesn't appear as one of the base patterns for the Shape node. Has this been taken out?

when i use 2048 resolution the software is using about 21% of ram(just for the rocky land with out twigs)..so i instead used 1024 which is having less impact on my memory but i lose a lot of details. Is there a way where i can optimize the usage like at the end of the rendering?(BTW i like these tutorials very well..)
@Substance3D5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Glad to hear you like the tutorials. You will use lots of detail at 1024. I didn't optimize the node graph too well for this series. I think you can get some better performance by optimizing the size of some of the nodes instead of dropping the entire graph to 1024. Please check this guide. support.allegorithmic.com/documentation/display/SDDOC/Performance+Optimization+Guidelines

Hey man! great tutorial. I`m having a bit of an issue here. I have closed the project after saving it at this part and when i opened it again i can`t view what i`m working on in the 3d view anymore. It just gives me the high rez plain grey thing with nothing on it. I`ve tried to right click the last Splatter node we used in the last pebles (small) and large video and telling it to show me the stuff in the 3d view, but it doesn`t work.
@jszwj4 жыл бұрын
ik its been 6 months but in case you still need to know or anyone else has this problem, just click on the node, in this case the base material, and right click and hit 'show in 3d'. You probably already figured this out tho since its been so long.

You can download the sbs file from Substance Academy. academy.substance3d.com/courses/Creating-your-first-Substance-material/youtube-y8q6-tgQjZc The twig graph is a subgraph in that sbs package.
