A note that I hope gets pinned for future S3D users: On version 13.1.0 (it may be lower than this, but this is what I used) I lost all my material settings when loading back into the project. My 3D view was showing a 2D image. After a lot of trouble shooting and forum posting helpful experts told me that you have to go to Scene > Save Current State in order to save (particlarly the scale and tesselation factor for this project) your material settings to use again next time you open the file, or else all you will see is flat nothing with your materials reset every time you open. Thanks, good luck!

Hello!! I'm a bit stuck here at 7:53, I can't seem to find 'Definitions' under Default. Could somebody tell me what the cause might be?

Can someone tell me the difference between Parallax Occlusion and Tesselation? And which is used for what.
@Substance3D5 жыл бұрын
Tessellation will subdivide the geometry. However, parallax occlusion will procedurally create 3D definition in textured surfaces, using a displacement map. Parallax is an effect to simulate more geometry. It can help to give more volume to shapes without the complexity of adding polygons. However, this effect can quickly fall apart when viewing the mesh at oblique angles.

@@Substance3D Parallax occlusion is like using a normal map over low poly as an illusion? Excuse me if my comment is dumb, I just started learning 3D last week!

My menu does not have the 'Definitions' submenu, it goes: Materials > Default > Edit | mdl::alg::materials > physically_metallic_roughness I'm using the Linux version changed from RPM for Red Hat to Ubuntu via Alien. Newest full release of Substance Designer available. Is this an error or due to my OS?

This is a very old tutorial... the options have changed in the latest version of Substance Designer... a bit confusing now.

I'm trying to learn SD 5.6.2 because I bought it on Steam back in ye olden days of one-time purchasing and it seems to handle the tessellation option differently, it's greyed out as an option in the shader. I looked about a bit online but it was hard to find stuff for such an old version: any tips? Edit: never mind, I found your older tutorial series! That'll work just fine :D Edit 2 boogaloo: Looks like in the old version I should be seeing the tessellation option too, but it's greyed out for me... hmmmm Edit 3 Oh No: looks like it's a problem with older versions of the tessellation shader versus the OpenGL stuff on OSX... sigh. Oh well. Leaving these rambles here in case anyone has the same problem in future.

You can still buy it on steam as a one time purchase. In fact, I pay for Adobe Creative cloud and the Algorithmic stuff doesn't seem to be included at all. All I see in my dashboard is a link to a one time purchase. (Though I haven't really looked further into it because I bought my copy through steam a few months back. So I could be missing some further complication)

So question on the 3D view. Is it possible to change the default position of the camera so that when saving renders for material Icons they are consistent?
@Substance3D2 жыл бұрын
You probably want to use PBR Render for that. We have a video on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qarYXnaVedZoiNU

I just started learning from this course which I like very much, but I face a problem - whenever I change anything in the scene or material properties, save the file and reload Designer, it gets back to the default settings which is really annoying. I know I can save those settings as a template but I was wondering if there is a way to save them within the project file so I don't have to load them every time I open it?

Is it possible to save the settings of SD? Every time when close and open SD I have to set "Scene -> Plane (hi-res)", "Materials -> Tesselation" and others. When I save .sbs file and close and open SD again the program not save the settings. I'm using 2018.3.1 SD. Thanks in advance :)

Of course. Go to Scene > Save current state as default, in the 3D View.
