A strong winter storm is currently dumping globs of snow throughout the lower Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions tonight. The Chicago Metro has been one of the hardest hit areas of the country with places reporting 3-4 inches of snow AN HOUR. Snow will continue throughout the night before tapering off in the morning.

Yep, that storm blew through Hammond, Indiana all day Monday. We exceeded the 6 to 10 inches. Calm now, however calling for another possible 6 to 10 inches. We sure got some snow and high winds. Brutal. I shoveled 6 times to keep it at bay. There is 4 more inches on the ground as of midnight. Be safe out there. Stay hydrated and dress in layers.👍❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄. I'm in Hebron. Happy I am retired now and don't have to go out in it. My Dad and two sisters ended up in a ditch upside down along I65 after flipping 5 times last Monday. They are ok.

I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio which is on Lake Erie, we always suffered from "lake effect" blizzards. We lived inland, (south-east) from the lake by a bit, in an area that is higher, neighborhoods with "Heights" as a part of their name. We lived in University Heights, surrounding us was Cleveland Heights, Mayfield Heights, & Shaker Heights. As a kid, I loved our blizzards,...lots of school time was cancelled. We built glorious snow forts, millions of snowmen, had plenty of parking lots to drive crazy in,....doing donuts. Snow plow operators were hired as needed, by residents, for their driveways. Eventually our community had operators of gas engine, wheeled, mini-snow plows,.....actually an industrial sized spinning brush, that cleared each blocks, sidewalks. (So walking to school, safely and easily couldn't be used as an excuse, to stay home.) Street snow plows created 3 & 5 foot tall, mounds on all our tree-lawns. And as kids, we traversed them, we often burrowed into them to make tunnels to play in. Fairly often, tall, filthy black mountains, of engine greased & air pollution befouled snow, sat in parking lots, well into June, slowly melting. I even recall the police finding a couple of dead bodies, buried in those mounds, in various communities. (ick). The years: 1958 through 1972.

Normally Lake Effect snow is south or east of the lake and it is also warmer so a lot of times it is just rain.
