This movie depicts how cruel humanity can be. In other movies, people are either given a justified reason or are portrayed as being absolutely insane. This movie took normal, everyday people and showed how cruel they can be. Such a beautiful and tragic piece of art that they have made here.

+Francisca Rodrigues for me, it hit home in a far more personal way. At the time the movie premiered, I was being bullied at school and it was pretty vicious. You hear the message all the time; you're not the first person who has been bullied but the truth is that you do feel isolated. All the sudden, this movie came out and I was thinking "Finally, somebody gets it" and I also loved the hopeful message; that while the world can be a dark and scary place but it's full of good people and it gave me hope that I would one day escape. And I have. You're right, I think kids should see this movie.

I remember when i was Little & everytime this scene came up, it frightened me baddly, now that i'm 22, it just makes me mad & upset. It also makes me wish Disney could make scenes like this, without sugarcoating it. kellywongwst I was 11 when I saw this in theaters for the first time, and I can easily see why that scene would be disturbing to a 6 year old. But this movie still has a G-rating officially. Some say it should be PG. I don't think it should be PG-13 though, but everyone has their own views on the subject. On another note, in theaters, I remember that when Esmeralda approached a degraded Quasimodo, I heard heart beats, most likely his. They began to quicken, but not out of first attraction. I think they were heart beats of fear and wariness, given what he'd just been through.

+Ash the CEO Both of you have a point. For me the problem is not that things like The Boxtrolls or The Dark Crystal exist, but the fact that parents need to know their children very well in order to know if they can take that much, or what exactly can they take and what not. For example, some kids grow up with Robocop, and me, at my 20s was terryfied by some moments of it, and i saw movies like Cannibal Holocaus, Irreversible and A Serbian Film before it, so in theory, the same kids could grow up with those movies as well, and we know that's not true.
@janeyrevanescence129 жыл бұрын
+kellywongwst as I mentioned earlier, I first saw this movie when I was about eight, at a time when I was being very badly bullied at school. Unlike you, I couldn't turn off the television or look away. I had to go through it with nobody helping me. And the worst part about it was that I felt that I was totally alone. You hear the message all the time; you're not the first person who has been bullied. The truth though is that you do feel alone. All the sudden, this movie came out and I was relieved. Here was a film saying "Yes, the world is full of cruel people, but it's also full of good people and that someday things will be better." That's what kept me going and I have escaped. I'm working at my dream company and I'm free now. That's why I think we should show this movie to children and talk with them about not only why it's wrong to bully others but why we should stand up for people being hurt.

I remember when I first saw this movie with my family on V.H.S I hated Frolo for not stopping the crowed from treating Quasimodo this way. That's why I liked neither of these bullies in that scene. As for Quasimodo, I'm not on his side for his own reason called being spineless against his own will.
