Of all the Zelda games begging for a remake, or a light remake/remix like A Link Between Worlds, its the original The Legend of Zelda. People like to dismiss it today for its simplicity and yet cryptic puzzle solving, but I think that is why the game is so compelling. Most people today have to play it while looking at a map with the secrets marked, which is a testament to the spirit of the game. Its a grand quest about discovering secrets that are actually well kept and hidden! Its like you are actually going on an adventure! I like the newer straight forward Zelda games as much as the next guy but Zelda 1 is in a league all its own. Its says right on the cartridge: "Experience the challenge of endless adventure" That's god damn right.

The thing I love the most about the original Legend of Zelda is not so much the gameplay as it is the story. I know that it is very simple at first glance but if you go into the lore written about in the game's manual and the Hyrule historia and the further backstory given in Zelda 2 it really has one of the most interesting stories. Not only that but unlike other Zelda games it doesn't show the story in cutscenes, it leaves it all up to the imagination which I really love.
