Bro. I just started changing my O2 sensor and the exact same thing happened to me. Autozone gave me the same part for downstream and told me it was upstream! Thanks man. Big help! Saved me a lot of time.

Here’s my latest understanding (going to call a mechanic and confirm as well) The upstream sensor is a simple o2 sensor (located before the cat, used to calculate the air fuel mixture. Often called the air fuel sensor.) The downstream is a special heated o2 sensor. (Located after the cat, used to read the emissions output). If I am not mistaken, Joel in this video might’ve installed a downstream sensor in his upstream location. The first part (15510 part number) should’ve been correct for upstream because it’s a simple o2 sensor when you look up the part. The smoke may have been wd40 burning off. The second part he got was the heated o2 sensor (part number 23161) if you look it up… which should be for downstream location. The parts store employees often times don’t know much, just selling parts based on their computer systems. Update: yep I used the first part this video had that he thought was wrong. Part number 15510 as the upstream o2 sensor replacement. Is working well 30 miles into test drive. The 23161 part he used is for the downstream heated o2 sensor replacement. So Joel in video mistakenly replaced his upstream sensor with a downstream sensor.

Luckily, 3 parts store employees convinced me that both sensors were identical (they are not) and so I ended up buying the correct upstream o2 sensor by accident because I was going to buy what this video said to buy at the end until I did more research. So the parts store employee’s incompetence actually helped out lol.

What size 02 sensor socket did you need to remove the oxygen sensor on your Jeep Patriot Latitude?
@R2EVOАй бұрын
I think the first sensor he had was correct but i could be wrong. 3 things tho....permanent codes are available 2010 and newer. These are codes that cannot be erased with a scanner. They erase by themselves after you drive the vehicle and complete enough drive cycles. Secondly, dont forget to hit that o2 with that anti sieze lub for future replacement. And third, after doing repairs you wanna drive the vehicle until you go thru a few drive cycles and complete the monitorsn that way u can verify the code doesnt come back on

Hey Joel I have a 2017 Jeep Patriot Sport 2.0. I have that same code that you hit about catalytic problem. Was gonna change the sensors but read that you said check engine light will still come on. You said to just change catalytic. Is that what you did eventually? How much was it if you did. Thanks

Thank you for the video. But you didn't show us how to get to the O2 sensor?
@anadiaz881310 ай бұрын
It should be right on top, I believe there’s nothing to remove or in the way, you just pop open the hood and look behind the engine area and it’s right there !:)

Do you happen to know where I can find the Map sensor on a 2016 Jeep Patriot Latitude 2.0? I've looked everywhere online and I can't find any information for the 2.0 engine!

smoke was from the wd40 you spayed on the exhaust. You definitely need to drive further to test it properly

Disclaimer: I’m learning. With that said: the upstream sensor should be the o2 sensor. The downstream sensor should be the heated o2 sensor. I think this Joel OP installed a downstream sensor at the upstream location. If I’m correct then rip to all the folks driving around with the wrong sensor installed because of this video lol. Can’t wait til I find out for certain. Update: yep I used the first part this video had that he thought was wrong. Part number 15510 as the upstream o2 sensor replacement. Is working well 30 miles into test drive. The 23161 part he used is for the downstream heated o2 sensor.

I couldn’t get my old sensor off with a Oxygen Sensor socket, so I cut the wires to the sensor as close as I could. I drove the Jeep to get the exhaust hot. Sprayed the sensor area for a few days before with PB Blaster penetrating fluid. I used a conventional 22 mm DEEPWELL SOCKET with an extension and a breaker bar (1/2” drive). I pulled with moderate force and within 15 seconds it broke free and not too difficult to get out afterwards (probably because of the penetrating fluid amounts).
