James Horner the actual Pilot in real life, crafted this score with such love of aviation, it shows tremendously

This was the first film I saw at the cinema. Bloody loved it. I was then, and still am, a huge aviation nut. I was just as excited as seeing the Gee Bee fly as I was a man with a rocket pack!

This might just be the most “James Horner” score Horner ever produced. It’s got the swashbuckling pace of his Star Trek themes, the romantic themes that would inform his later work on Titanic, and percussive drive of his Aliens score. All that, plus some inspired (and goofy!) instrumentation that pares well with the circus-themed cues (is there a banjo and a cowboy jaw-harp in there?). And those orchestral swells are so heroic and really hearken back to the Hollywood’s golden age, making this piece historically appropriate.
@MrCodyhoskins6 жыл бұрын
This track so far has been played in a lot of trailers, like Secondhand Lions, The Black Cauldron, James and the Giant Peach, and The Pagemaster. It's truly the best tune to play for adventure-themed material and it really tugs hard at the heart to jump into an adventure.

You can always tell a Horner score, if it involves a brass section, because the French Horns are always working hard!

Starting at 1:12, my favorite part of this track. Lift off!!! Also, 1:22. Love that recurring theme there. I play this track when I'm playing the game Dark Void on Xbox 360. It really sets the mood perfectly, because in that game you get to fly around with a rocket pack as well.

Disney has a knack for ruining franchises, but they keep making remakes/reboots/afterthought sequels because people are stupid enough to keep going to see them. There have been two different Disney reboots/remakes rumored over the years and they both sounded horrible. One project was going to be called "The Rocketeers" in which Cliff Secord goes missing fighting the Nazis and the "Rocketeer" mantle gets passed onto a young African American, teenage female pilot. The other project was supposed to be an animated film/series where I believe Cliff's daughter takes on the mantle of "Rocketeer". Both sound equally awful. Why does Disney feel the need to gender-swap every decent male character, or race-swap every white character? Disney's social agenda is so blatant and disgusting.

If you love this track you'll want to get Horner's soundtrack to Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan - some of the tracks are nearly identical to this one, but even grander! They also play this track as part of the EPCOT Dancing Fountain at Disney World. Every time I hear it I expect to hear the Enterprise fly into warp.

I love James Horner, but this is one of his better later soundtracks. A lot of his later stuff seemed kind of cut-and-paste - like he was just re-using stuff from other movies. This one didn't really do that. It all felt very original.
